Canada - Coyotes at YYC

According to the CADORS, it appears there has been a number of incidents at YYC involving coyotes on the runway. Maybe 20 events or so in the last three months.

(And yes, they are in our backyard too. Beautiful animals.)

They happen all the time here in Springbank CYBW as well. Had a close one the other day.

When I used to fly in Texas I had to do a go around once because of an Alligator on the runway. I guess each part of the world has it's own runway pests, lol.

At YSB apparently they have problems with snowboarders.

YVR has coyotes as well.
In the '90s YXS had bears.

Some of YYC's cougars can be considered more like Sabre-toothed because there is an age cut off :D:D:D some even look like hockey plays that were in fights :D:D.................better stop now! Have to drive to YUL for next flight!:eek:

While they were still constructing the new road around the end of rwy34, I was out there with my (then) one-year old son, and saw a coyote eyeing us. Kept getting closer and closer until I tossed a few rocks his way to scare him off. Really gotta keep an eye open for them.

I often wonder about the fools with their dogs off-leash in the nature areas (especially along the pathway near Edworthy Park) where there are definitely coyotes.

I support the coyotes. If people want to feed them dogs, so what?

Largst group we have seen behind the house was five of them. Most of the time it's one though. Occasionally two. They catch their prey jumping at it, just like cats jump at mice.

We live near the river valley and hear coyotes on a regular basis and see them occasionally. There are often signs for missing animals - cats and dogs - I have a good hunch where they are ;-)

That was my first thought too! And I suppose there are Jets at YWG all the time, especially since they haven't switched divisions after moving from Atlanta.

This reminded me of a rather long comment a certain "unique" flight instructor was saying on the radio about coyotes being beautiful animals at YBW a while back. Needless to say, Tower wasn't too impressed by her wasting air time during a very busy time with a full circuit and traffic on approach.

There is actually a former TC inspector in YWG who wrote amazing CADORS. One of my favourites is about a fish strike at YYC. (really!) Here's a couple of examples of his brilliance.

Narrative: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that the initial report of a dead perch about a pound and half (perfect eating size) found on runway 16 at Calgary was unfounded. Further reports that the fish was picked up by a daredevil CL215-flight crew who were conducting water pickups on the Bow River inside city limits and then dropping the water on unsuspecting patrons at the Cecil and the St. Regis hotels is without substance.

O.P.I.: System Safety

Narrative: UPDATE Aerodrome Safety reported that airside operations personnel recovered and removed two Ross's Geese (smaller version of a snow goose) and then found a third one knock knock knocking on heaven's door. The three geese were removed. This event did not cause any interruption of air traffic nor did it cause any reported aircraft damage. The aircraft which collided with the birds is unknown.
Hey, if these inspectors are earning taxpayer money they might as well deliver some quality entertainment while they're at it. :D
