Flying Blue (Air France, KLM, and Other Partners) - Status question

Last year March I was in the lucky circumstance to receive a complimentary platinum status match.

I have not flown much with skyteam and was surprised to see my status until today still reflecting platinum on the website. I believe this status is renewed on the first of jan? More surprising was to receive a gold card in the mail. (last year I never actually received any card).

Thoughts? The cards are valid until March so will I be downgraded to gold from end of March onwards?

1. Status changes are carried out on 31 March/1April. That's why your Platinum card is valid until then.
2. If you are have Platinum or Gold status and don't requalify, but have collected at least 1 level mile, you go down one status level in the following year ("soft landing"). That's why you received a Gold card.
Conclusion: Yes, you will become Gold at the end of March.

That is because Flying Blue was overwhelmed with requests in 2011 and put some matches into the system only after 31March 2011. So for people who got matched on, say, April 2 2011, their cards are valid until March 2013. The late requesters got lucky.

Thanks for the clear response, I expected to become gold because of my earning pattern. Pity they did not status match me 4 days later.
