Our flight yesterday to SJD was oversold and we were IDBed.

They offered us $500 in vouchers and said no other form of compensation is possible. It seems that is not the case.

I understand that under US law, I am entitled to 400% of the one way fare to the first stopover (MEX in this case).

How is the one way fare calculated?

Is it 400% of MY one way fare? This is hard to determine since I bought a RT ticket.
Is it 400% of the Y fare in the market?
Is it 400% of the lowest one way fare?

I do not know about what amount you are eligible form but check the ticket details for the segment fare from your departure point to MEX.

There is a fare break down a¡in al tickets no matter RT, OW, Circle, open jaws etc.. and fare % calc is determined by only considering affected route fare without taxes and Q`s.

They once tried to IDB me on a MEX-JFK flight as a Sky Team Elite Plus flying on a DL Award ticket with no seat assignment. I told the supervisor I will sue and take it to the news. He then got me a seat and IDB another guy. AM does not like to pay cash for IDB's. They manage to do it in MEX, but in the US and Europe they have had to pay due to clear regulations. My brother was IDB on a MAD-MEX and got AM to issue an MCO for 600 Euros that he had to collect in MEX because AM did not have cash in the ticket counter in MAD.
