Long timers may remember the free credits we got from HotelClub a few years ago. I haven't used them since, but they're offering a UK Groupon that will probably be of use to some.
For £19, you get £50 in HotelClub money to spend. There doesn't seem to be any minimum spend on your reservation. So, in dollar terms, you're buying about $77 in hotel for $30. Not a bad deal, although my recollection is that HotelClub's prices were usually "eh" (this is a several-year-old recollection).
The other problem is that the rules limit you to one Groupon. You could probably get away with opening a few accounts and buying a voucher in each (especially husband and wife), but don't go crazy on this becaue (at least in the USA) they will shut down accounts for "abuse."
If you take advantage of this from outside the UK, you might want to try paying with paypal (sign into your account first), as that has been successful for me in paying for foreign Groupons.
Personally, the deal isn't good enough for me to put up £19 in the hopes of finding a good rate on HotelClub. That said, if I was currently hunting for a cheap one-night stay, I'd put my trip into the HotelClub matrix and see if anything worthwhile popped up.

I could not find anywhere that it says only 1 groupon, and it allows you to buy multiples. I bit on this promo, because it seems to be a good deal, saving me quite a bit on a 1 night stay. The only downside I see, is you cannot use it until March 16th. I just hope they dont jack up their room rates between now and then.....

It would be extremely unusual to be able to use more than 1 voucher per booking, but I guess we won't know 100% for sure until someone tries it.

Follow the paypal instructions in my original post. That's the only way I've ever been able to buy foreign Groupons.
Meanwhile, it is interesting that the drop down menu allows you to buy as many vouchers as you want. Has anyone yet received multiple vouchers?
What concerns me about HotelClub -- other than not having great rates -- in that their hotel choices seem pretty limited. Like they only have about 14 cities in Germany where they offer hotels. That's a far cry from most of the online travel agencies. So unless you have a specific hotel in mind, you may have some trouble effectively using your vouchers. This isn't Expedia.

Ditto. I have received my 2. I am assuming that since you have to call to activate if you are an existing member, that you will only be able to apply 1 to each account. If you buy multiples, you should be able to apply them to different accounts using different e-mail addresses and names.

Yeah, it doesn't sound like much has changed since the days of the free HotelClub money. My recollection is that HotelClub offers similar "regular" rates to, say, Expedia, but with less lucrative promos (like Expedia is more likely to get access to a chain's promo rates).
The biggest problem is scope: it seems like HotelClub has only a tiny fraction of the hotel listings that the big agencies have. So it's going to be harder to use your voucher to stay in a hotel you want to stay at.
Still, obviously, a decent deal -- I just wouldn't load up, unless you don't good access to other hotel deals.

Shop through one of these cash-back portals and use your voucher at checkout.
And if you're buying enough of these Groupons to matter, you could use a UK cashback site (what I did when there was a crazy Expedia UK deal a few years ago). Topcashback pays a pretty good rebate on UK Groupon purchases: I think you're supposed to be a UK resident, but I had no problem getting the cashback into my paypal account.

Also for those purchasing multiple Groupons note that you have to telephone your code through rather than use it online if you are a existing customer so no stacking as they would definitely pic up on that. Only option would be to open multiple accounts.

Dear Frank,
Thank you for your e-mail.
With reference to your enquiry regarding your Groupon Hotelclub Voucher, please note that as per the Terms and Conditions, you must register your account on March 19, 2012 to claim your 80 HotelClub Member Rewards. Upon further investigation made, your account was registered on April 3, 2012.
The Groupon offer is now closed. We suggest you to kindly contact Groupon directly on the details provided below:
E-mail: support@groupon.co.uk
Phone: +02035100410 (Weekdays 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM)
Please note that for any further information, we also recommend you to visit the Groupon website: http://www.hotelclub.com/promo/grouponuk/ as they will be providing the refund on their end.
We hope this information has clarified your concerns and should you have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us.
This is ridiculous. There is nothing in the terms that says I must redeem it before March 19th (it was activated on March 16th!!!). I sent a follow-up message, politely explaining that this is not what the terms say. And got this:

I bought one of these and activated the coupon within the terms and conditions. Result: nothing.
When I contacted Hotel Club UK (in Australia), I got the response about not activating the coupon before the (fictitious) expiry date.
A few e-mails later, Groupon UK say they are cancelling my deal and refunding my credit card.
What a pathetic waste of time. My experience tells me that I will never bother with Hotel Club UK, whether in Australia or elsewhere. A curious way of (not) building business.

This is so confusing. Voucher's T&C stated 11th May as the last day for redeeming but hard to say if they mean exchanging coupon for points or redeeming points for a hotel stay...
I spoke with their customer service on the chat and they said that hotel stay needed to be booked until yesterday. I still had the points on my account so I quickly booked my stay and it was confirmed.
