Got an email tonight from MH saying that my flight in July from Kul to Fco had been cancelled due to the operational change. They are no longer flying direct.

So they moved us to Kul to lhr and then a 4 hour wait before a BA 3 hour flight from lhr to rome!!

I am not happy. Call centre said 3 months for a refund if I wanted one.
But I can book elsewhere which I need to

For the life of me I am struggling to find anyone that flies direct to Rome.
I would even be prepared to holy to hong kong or Bangkok if I thought it would be quicker.

Any suggestions. ?

Are you starting your travel from MEL? Personally, I would stick with the KUL-LHR-FCO alternative. Otherwise, you'll have to change airlines and go from SIN (on SQ) or HKG (on CX) to get a flight direct to FCO.

#3 Seriously? Unless my destination was LHR, I'd avoid it like the plague! Seems much better to change airlines to SQ in SIN or CX in HKG!

Doesn't MH fly KUL-AMS still? or even KUL-FRA? If you wanted to stick with them all the way to Europe, either of those should be better and faster than LHR for connecting. Why hasn't MH brought those up as options?

If you want a nonstop to Rome from Asia, you could try pricing out TG via BKK (they may play aircraft roulette on that route though) or CX or SQ.

I ended up staying with the LHR route and cancelling the Rome leg...will go to Rome at the end of the trip instead of the start now.

Never been to London before...and I hope I will cope for a night as it's right in the middle of Olympic season :D

Hmmm...I suppose it has been a while since I've last done a transit through LHR. Maybe I've forgotten how bad it was... The last time I went through LHR was in Nov 2010 but it was my final destination. The only thing I really didn't like was immigration.
