US Airways Dividend Miles - Can you place USAirways award ticket on hold?
Hi,
I would like to book an award ticket traveling on USAirways. Does the airline allow you to place award ticket reservations on hold? If so, for how long?
Thanks

IIRC, they stopped allowing holds back when they began the 24-hour-after-booking cancellation policy.
Bummer. Thanks for the info.

This answer doesn't match the question.
OP was asking about award tickets on hold. Yes, you can place most awards (depends on partner) on hold for up to 3 days.
dvanrip is correct that holds for revenue tickets ended when the 24 hour cancel policy came into effect a year or two ago. That doesn't apply to award tickets though.

YES always can hold them for 3 days, including *A Partners!

I haven't booked an award ticket with US before. Can you get the 3 day hold online or do you have to do it via phone?

Yes, have to do it via phone.

What status level do you need to reach in order to do phone bookings on US? (Without garbage fees added...)
On UA, you needed 1K, although with the new Plat level I'm not sure anymore. I'm just a Gold on US so I'm expecting that this benefit is a level or two higher than me... :(

Yes, have to do it via phone.
If you place it on hold via phone, can you complete the booking online or do you have to call back? Do the phone rep svc fees apply to award bookings?

My understanding is that no telephone ticketing fee is charged when it cannot be done online (e.g. *A award tix)
From their new list of award fees (http://www.usairways.com/en-US/dividendmiles/usemiles/booktravel.html), I see that the quick ticketing and "award processing" fees are also waived for Gold and upwards.
In short, for Gold and up, there should be no extra fees incurred when booking via telephone an itinerary that cannot be done online.

You'd have to call back. For something that cannot be done online (e.g. *A award booking), no telephone ticketing fee is charged (but an "award processing" fee will be charged for those with < Gold status ... same too with quick ticketing fee).

Cool! In a radical departure from the norm, I have a mid-tier status that is actually "more elite" than I thought! ^

This may be a stupid question, however, how many times can you put a reservation on hold? Can you call up every three days?
I've transferred a bunch of SPG points and need to wait until the 50% hotel transfer posts to actually book the ticket.

The only way to "extend" a hold is to cancel the existing booking and make a new one. This is safe if there's still enough award inventory on your flights to essentially duplicate your booking before canceling, but if not you take the risk that your seats won't return to award inventory after the agent cancels them.
I did this recently for an ICN-SFO flight on UA and the seats did return to award inventory immediately, but I also had a backup itinerary planned out just in case.

If you book an award ticket from a Chairman's account for a non-status member, do the fee waivers of the Chairman's account apply?

In my experience, yes. This is why I always try to book any itineraries that we might need to cancel out of my account rather than my (US Gold) wife's - so we can do so without paying the redeposit fee.

What if I want to book award flights far in advance as they become available. Is it possible to hold one way of an award until the return is available?

Only if your return is within three days of your departure.
Otherwise your only options are to wait and pray, or book a fake return and pay the $150 change fee when your desired flights open up.

For *A award bookings, you can put them on hold up to three days.

Anyone know if you cancel a hold on US with *A, will the seats go immediately back into inventory?
