I will fly economy with Mrs Pandy and 2 children Long haul on AF.
We need to fly on specific flights so I paid cash for the tickets.

Is there any way we can use miles to upgrade to Premium Economy?

You can upgrade to Premium Voyageur (PV) by ringing Flying Blue, so long as:

1) your tickets are in an upgradeable fare
2) there is availability on your flights in the relevant PV fare bucket for upgrades

See the sticky: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/flying-blue-air-france-klm-other-partners/1045045-booking-classes-awards-skyteam-carriers-upgrades.html

Only the most expensive Economy fares are upgradeable, though...so unless you specifically booked the expensive, flexible fares you might find yourself unable to upgrade.

If you need the flexibillity to change you flights easily. As happens quite often for me.

...or to upgrade with miles!

Though given the small differential that exists between Voyageur and Premium Voyageur, I would only consider upgrading on a route where the next step up is to Affaires, not PV. (If any such routes still exist...)

yes guys, thanks for the reasons, but I didn't do that. Family of four long haul is costly enough already without buying flexible tickets.
I didn't have enough miles to take us all Business and couldn't risk waiting to see if the award flights were available for the flights we need, so I will stick with what I have.
Thanks for the advice.
