Other Asian, Australian and South Pacific Frequent Flyer Programs - Malaysia Airlines new livery (Not the recent one, but a new one)
Looks like MAS is in another phase of rebranding.
This is the new info on the new livery:
"The new livery comprises of upsized, bold malaysiairlines in navy blue near door L1, with the wau bulan in complete navy blue at tail. The cheatlines are gone, replaced with two strokes of wavy-like ala CX's white paint-brush stroke, but inverted. MH's two strokes of waves covers the back of plane like a ribbon wrapping around it."
Details of the new livery are as follows:
- The official unveiling date was informed to be on 18 March 2012. MH is expected to make a huge announcement on that date especially with regards to its new corporate structure.
- The new livery is to mark the split of the current MH into 2 separate entities - the longhaul entity which will be known as Malaysia Airlines and a new shorthaul entity operating a fleet of B738 previously known as "Sapphire" then renamed to "MAS" then renamed to "yet to be named".
- Sapphire/MAS/yet to be named short haul entity of MH will have the same newer livery, but in red colour.
- The split of the current MH is caused by the share swap between MH and AK which saw AK's Tony Fernandes sits on MH's Board of Directors and the latest turnaround plan which peaked earlier this week when MH announced a full year 2011 loss of MYR 2.5 billion or USD 780 million, the biggest ever in MH's corporate history.
On another site the livery has been leaked by MAS itself, it reminds me of Garuda's livery

This can't be possible...it costs millions of dollars to repaint the planes. I'd spend those millions on revamping their product and not repainting planes.

I agree. Even TG seems to be upgrading their products, MAS needs to catch up soon, or it's gonna be left behind.

I actually quite like the new livery, it's fresh and clean, but I do miss the red tho. Hopefully it will have the OW logo soon.
It's indeed a shocker!
Cool and futuristic but rather bland. If only there were a touch of red strokes.

Are they stupid or something? They loose so much money each and every day and they introduce a new logo..... Bizarre!

The new livery is not bad but it does need a bit of red to make it more striking. The new regional airline can have the reverse with red and just a touch of blue.
Anyway, as long as the business class seats go fully flat, I won't complain. I'm really interested to see what the first class seats/suites look like. I really hope they upgrade the hard product on their B777-200s, especially if they're going to keep them for at least another 5 or 6 years, so that there is consistency in their long-haul product. I doubt they'll upgrade the angled lie-flat seats on their new A330-300s, which is a real shame.

I am always bewildered by how MAS's management work. Seems like their brains are not filled with grey matter but by just air. Think if you try to drown their management, they won't drown... because their brains are empty... they'll just float....

The management at MAS needs to be proactive rather than reactive. They need to be far-sighted and have a clear vision for the airline. I doubt that's ever happened. We can all see the differences in management styles (as well as outcomes) between SQ and MH. Enough said!
Very similar to what TG is going to offer.

It's not an exceptional-looking first class but it looks comfortable enough. I'd like to try it out.

Never flown on Malaysia, but have been underwhelmed at the livery. This being said staring at the plane from the AC at LAC.
I do like this new scheme. And I understand there are other issues.
Apparently MAS is not rebranding itself blue. It's just for the 6 A380s.
In fact the latest airliners pic doesn't seem to match the 'new' livery photo.

The poor bird seems rather 'naked' to me.

I quite like the Livery on the A380!

No one knows for sure actually. There has also been a rumor going on that the ribbon (or the swoosh) would only be painted on the 1st aircraft. In my opinion, and sadly this actually looks better than the version with the swoosh.

Recently a person sent an email to MAS about the logo on the tail, many people were saying that the logo was too high and it seemed odd.
In response to this email MAS said that the 'Render of the new livery on the A380' was just a computer render, it does not represent how the livery would look like in real life, the painters/designers follow the actual dimensions given and not the render.
In my opinion the tail needs to be resolved, MAS seriously needs to fix the issues that they have with the numerous amounts of liveries they have.
On another site they said that the new livery will only be on the A380, the other livery will only be on the A330 and B737s, whilst the B777 hasn't been undecided, finally the B747 will leave the airline.

The wau on the tail of the A380 in the new colours has already been painted (and it looks too high IMO)! What are they talking about that it's just an artist's rendering... The livery on the body yes but not the tail.

Looks like a reasonably nice cabin from MH, however I'm a little confused with the Y seat PTV remote, in the official image it sports a smallest white remote, but in another image from another site it's a big black one. Is the one in the official image just a mock up of the cabin?

Is the J seat fully flat or lie flat?
It is fully flat, thank goodness!
Good to see. Do you think MH Enrich will increase the miles required to redeem awards Y,J and F? since they will be going oneworld? e.g QF astronomical award rates...
Images from the A380 joyride (Images from Malaysia Wings)
In the Y class image the PTV remote seems to have gone back to the smallish remote. So was the big black one replaced last minute?
Y class upperdeck (Looks like there's no sign of a cup holder, however nice PTVs):

I don't think MH will increase the redemption rates just because they're joining OneWorld. They have increased the First class reward for the A380 but I think Business class stays the same.
Thanks. What is the First Class award points required for SYD-KUL-SYD? :)

It costs 46750 miles for a First Class ticket each way, so 93500 miles for a return ticket plus about $350-400 in taxes. Pretty good, IMO.
Thanks Not bad. Does MH offer caviar in F on the SYD route? I was travelling F LAX-KUL few years back on the 747 and no caviar. This was when they stopped at TPE.

I think it's really good value.
No caviar on the SYD-KUL route unfortunately. I think it's due to Australian goverment regulations.
