Although I am seriously considering booking a flight on the 787 from Heathrow in business, later this year, I am reluctant to do so because I am concerned that on the day a 330-300 will turn up at the gate instead. This has happened so many times to me with other aircraft that I cannot really trust Qatar at this point in time.

See my post in the other thread regarding the economy seats... also, I have yet to try the slimline Recaros on Lufthansa's A320s, but let's hope the support/comfort is good for long-haul...
And ditto regarding award booking, I think I will definitely wait for them to get more 787s in the fleet before trying to confirm a seat in business on one...

In relation to the economy seats I thought they were developing a seat that actually stopped people reclining almost onto the end of your chin. From the pictures it seems the same problem remains. So if you get a person in front of you who wants to recline for the whole journey you either sit in an uncomfortable position or give the person behind you the hump by reclining your seats has well. With the new seat passengers will gain more legroom at knee level as a net effect of the seat however this does allow the installation of up to two additional seat rows per aircraft if Qatar want to.

I presume they already have installed the extra 2 rows, so to speak (the reason they went with slimlines). I still think the width will be the main issue, but I'll leave final judgement until I've tried them...
I agree about the recline, I was hoping they might have tried the Cathay Pacific approach...

Both seats look horrible. The Business Class seats cover the window so you can only see the top half of the window and the economy seats are only 16.9" wide compared to their 777s at 18.9". Both in 3-3-3. Definitely was expecting better.

Sorry for repeating in another thread, but admin just need to join both threads together.
I much prefer the ANA Y seat, the fact that the person in front cannot recline into you is a winner. Also prefer their 2-4-2 layout over the QR 3-3-3 layout. The Qatar 787 cabin is only 20cm's wider than the A330 and by fitting in an extra seat this is going to be tight.
In relation to the window being partially covered in business class i am pretty sure this is just an extra screen that you can pull up if you wish. If you look at the mock up in Berlin the plastic is shaped to take into account of the window. Maybe I am wrong, but I am pretty sure that the cover is only an extra to allow you to pull it up whilst using your laptop. I am sure this picture was taken in the hanger and is the way the unit is assembled before people start playing around with the gadgets on board.
Another concern is will the 777 now be revamped with these new economy seats that will then allow for 10 abreast. I think they may decide to move in this direction especially on the so called tourist routes.

The seats DO NOT cover the window. Did you even read the press statement. You can control the "shades" of the window by the Android mini-remote as well as button.

And did you even look at the pictures? Half the window is blocked by some sort of divider; what is less clear is whether this divider can be moved or not.....
I didnt see any other post's regarding the economy seats so I will say it here. The business class seats are definately a winner and looks like they are going the same route as CX and AA, with a slight difference.
The economy seats appear to be a fail. They are definately adopting a Emirates'esque attitude towards seating. Those armrest's are tiny thin. Also means that if the width is decent then the aisles are going to be very thin. They really should have gone with the ANA approach of 2-4-2. JAL as well went with the 2-4-2 seating with their first long haul flight to Boston starting next month I believe.

ANA was part of the development from the begining with Boeing on the 787 so they knew what the optimum was and its a 2-4-2.
If anyone has ever flown economy long haul on Emirates 777 you will know just how much a little space can make a difference.
Anyway until I fly I wont know for sure, but on initial inspections thats my thoughts.

Exactly...the part with the "frosted-glass" like area cannot be moved I am sure so in many areas it will cover the window. Thanks for seeing what I am seeing! :)
