Florida - Miami / MIA Connection - Food Options at and nearby MIA airport

It was suggested by DL folks I ask the experts here... :-)

For trips to BAQ there's no direct flight from ATL. I've generally gone ATL-BOG-BAQ but due to scheduling and the need to accompany a colleague from SEA will have to connect via MIA this time.

In times past I've found the food options to be terrible... Certainly no One Flew South in MIA :-(

Is there anything *near* the airport worth extending my layover for?

As this is an airport, not airline :), related issue (e.g. not confined to the AA Terminal) it will go off to the proper destination forum - more members will be able to weigh in with food options near MIA / Miami International Airport.

P.S. If flying American, I enjoy La Carreta (http://www.lacarreta.com) in the AA terminal D, second level, which offers Cuban food. Open 5:30 AM - 10:30 PM. Their menu is actually pretty vast.

I'll second La Carreta in terminal D. It's a local chain and there are also a couple more outside the airport including Coral Gables.

MIA is pretty much in a hood... unless you're going to take a cab and go a few miles away with time to spare, I'd hang tight and hang out in terminal D.

Don't go to Bongo's. It's horrible.

At least I learned that you can, in fact, go wrong with a cab driver's restaurant recommendation.
