KLM Flying Dutchman - Which a la carte meal in Y would you choose?

I'm flying IAD-AMS-CPT this weekend and am curious to try one of the a la carte meals offered.... Japanese, Indonesian, Dutch, or is it Italian or Vegetarian?
I searched and found almost nothing on here, maybe I didn't use the right search terms? Which ones would you choose? I haven't had Y catering on KLM in a year or so, though I did BKK-TPE last month....
Thanks!

I would guess that is a personal choice what you would prefer to eat. From what I have heard was that the meals (http://www.klm.com/travel/nl_en/prepare_for_travel/on_board/dining_on_board/alacarte_menu.htm) were nice.

Wouldn't this be a nice free perk (like in free special meals) for Plats to maybe differentiate the tier from Golds?

On my last AMS-LAX flight, I chose the Italian option and I thought it was very good. I would choose it again myself.

The most popular is the Indonesian dish.

OT there are some rumours AF will also adopt the à la carte concept.

I booked the Vegetarian one, I will report back! I'm not actually vegatarian but several of the dishes in it sounded nice.

I noticed that these are described as having a starter, main and desert...are they actually served separately as well?

Judging from the pictures, no. (can't imagine it either)

I was very happy with my "Vegetarian Favourite" selection--it was very filling, and the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. It appears there is one additional large dish of food compared to my seatmate (The regular meals seem to have one larger, rectangular dish, which is hot, plus two square-ish dishes, one with a salad and one with a dessert/cake, plus a piece of cheese and crackers.
My dish had similar sized salad and dessert (though of higher quality--very nice bitter greens with a tiny balsamic dressing bottle, plus a nice sweet dessert). The main dish was a quite large mixture of black-eyed peas, kale, and roasted pumpkin--delicious. But there was one more dish that seemed to have an odd (though tasty)mix of other bites--stuffed dried apricots with cheese inside, some coconut thing, not even sure, but as I said higher quality than the regular dishes.
I'd say that, priced at EUR12, it seemed a bit expensive--but actually after eating it I'd say it was priced right---and, since I hadn't paid for Economy Plus it was my little treat. And I will order another one on the return!

Exclusively when seated in Economy Class on intercontinental KLM flights departing from Amsterdam except when flying to Cairo, San Francisco, Tel Aviv and Toronto
So it isn't available.

Sorry to disappoint, but the a la carte option is only available when travelling from Amsterdam - on the return, it's not offered.

My flights are IAD-AMS-CPT-AMS-IAD, so I will order it again on AMS-IAD.

Offering different standards of service on a route depending on the direction of travel is not a good idea.

I'm guessing the reason they have not already done so is because of the difficulty of standardising the a-la-carte options from all outstations, or to have the same options available on all flights. If you're in the habit of paying for it ex-AMS, you would probably want it to be almost identical/indistinguishable if you were to order it on a flight into AMS - and that would be very difficult to achieve.

That being said, there is no reason why they should be the same. I would have no problems with having a different selection of meals when departing from an outstation..

Would the far smaller demand at outstations outweigh the extra costs and trouble for KLM and the caterer?

Admittedly not à la carte (at least not in Y), but

It would appear that the other meals have been changed slightly.
