I am going to spent quite alot of time in Nashua, NH. The only Hilton related hotel is the doubletree Lowell.

Can someome give me a comment on the property? Any wireless access? Anything for Diamond?

Tks

I have stayed at the Doubletree Lowell about 40 nights over the past 4 years. As an a HHonors Diamond they always provide me with a nice welcome basket upon checkin: cookie, 2 bottles of water, fruit, & other snacks, breakfast coupons, and a room on the upper floor 8 or 9. Parking is either in the garage or in front - free.

I have received upgrades to suites often and room 821 or its 921 is the Presidential Suite.

The hotel is older so no high speed access and no business center. Last time I was there they were refurbishing the restaurant.

Restaurants around the hotel are slim: Italian, Indian, some Irish pubs, along with takeout chinese etc. The Italian and Indian place are my favorites.

Its the only Hilton property close to Nashua, NH. I can't believe Hilton does not have at least a Hampton Inn or HGI in Nashua, NH...they are losing out on some $$$.

Enjoy your stay.

I have only stayed at this property once, and it was earlier this year. As a Diamond, I also stayed in the spacious Presidential Suite. It had a nice view of historic downtown Lowell.

Everything ak_co said was true, but I need to add that it is not really convenient to a highway. As far as I know, you need to go through the city streets of Lowell to get to the Lowell Connector to 3 north, unless somebody else knows of a better route to Nashua.

While you will not go wrong with this property as it is a nice place to stay, I would recommend (and actually prefer) the Fairfield Inn Nashua Merrimack (http://www.marriott.com/dpp/PropertyPage.asp?MarshaCode=MHTFI) for business in Nashua, as I have stayed at that property many times. They also have freshly-baked cookies (like the Doubletree, except they offer them every night) and hard candy at the front desk for every guest that stays there, a water cooler on the first floor near the staircase for anyone who wants drinking water, a fireplace and a very friendly staff. While it is not a hot breakfast, they do have a wide selection of baked goods and drinks, both hot and cold, in the morning.

Don’t be fooled by the picture on the Internet web site — it is misleading. This Fairfield Inn is unlike any other at which I have stayed. It is in a clean 3-story brick building and has that cozy, charming New England feel both inside and outside, especially in the winter. You are just off the highway as well as near the main road, and far closer to Nashua than at the Doubletree.

Finally, I have stayed there for as low as $52.00 per night in the winter. You will definitely not get a Presidential Suite, but that does not really matter to me.

There is also a Homewood in manchester, that's about the same distance.

I've stayed at this property, usual stuff, robe, water, cookies, nothing extradinory for me (didnt' get the Presidential suite as Diamond, noe of you other guys must have been there http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) but it's a good enough place to spend the night.

But if I was going to be there for a while, I'd want the homewood, get a suite, kitchen, etc.

Lowell is an old mill city that is trying hard to become a pleasant place. Personally, I try hard to never go there. Aside from aesthetics, the primary road between Lowell and Nashua has been under construction for several years. To see updates and weekly construction schedules, check out

http://www.route3construction.com

The Homewood Suites in Manchester is brand new. There's a new Hampton Inn Suites being built in Bedford, NH (near Manchester). I'm not sure when it will be open. In either case, you could fly into MHT instead of BOS when staying at either property. The Homewood Suites is basically on airport property.

The portion of Route 3 between Manchester and Nashua is *not* under construction.

Good luck in whichever you choose!

For those of you on that NWA 6 night fast track, here's a cheap way to fill it out in Boston. Prepay Net Rate only.

Just another note to this - most weekday nights in April have availability at $74.85. This is a huge bargain for a moderately inconvenient hotel.

Yeah, but you have to stay in Lowell for the night ;) (says the guy from Worcester, the utility closet of New England). I do like the canal right outside where you have breakfast, but to have to pay for parking here seems a travesty to me. Still, I do need a stay or two . . .

It says there's no parking fee on their website. Hmm.

You are right and I would defer to the website as I haven't stayed there for maybe 3 years. I do remember a $6 or so parking charge last time I stayed which I thought was foolish. If they have gotten rid of it, I think that is the right move.

btw, thanks for the info. Now if there was something interesting going on in Lowell on the weekend. :)

You can always go to tax-free Nashua NH to shop...

True, NH's only like 15 minutes from there.

My favorite New England BBQ joint is in Tyngsboro (basically Nashua) - Smokey Bones. LOVE the fresh donuts.

There's a multiplex right near this hotel, so you can at least go see a movie in a stadium theatre. Also, there's the Lowell Stadium.

Or whatever. You can just go checkin and check right out if you live in the area ;)

Then I will have to pay use tax to MA anyway. ;) Actually looked at in the right way, Lowell can be a pleasant weekend with a visit to the National Park with the restored mills and living/dining room tour and a ride on the canal and a Lock Monsters baseball game at night or something at the War Memorial Auditorium. Not that Lowell is going to supplant NYC as a vacation destination, but ...

Bump! Wow, this thread is dusty... we will be staying here next month, how is the place? Will not be spending a whole lot of time in the room since we are going to shop and see family in MA & NH. I know this one is far from Boston, so it is not an issue. Very first time at a Doubletree actually. :)

I stayed there a couple of months ago for a NASCAR race. The hotel is OK, right next to the river/canal. Nothing to write home about, but no complaints either.

The rooms at the DT aren't going to win any awards, but if you get a good deal (Priceline: 3* - $30) it's not that bad. If you decide to try the PL route, you may get lucky and receive HH points for the stay.

There's a small parking lot out front but the front desk will validate your parking ticket should you park in the adjacent town parking garage.

If your travel allows, the Doubletree Boston/Bedford is PHENOMONAL.

I just had my second stay in a month. The property used to be a Renaissance, so you know it is quality. Great rooms, great pool, LCD TVs. I have not had ONE complaint about this property.

Ironically, after staying here for the second time. I had to travel down the road and thought I would try the Doubletree Westboro, UUUUGGGGGHHHHHH

This place should be rebranded as a Red Roof Inn. The rooms are less then stellar. The restaraunt is great, but nothing else is.

We stayed here about a month ago.... it was a good stay.... $26 priceline stay.... :) AND we got our cookies!

The only problem I had was that we could not open our windows... apparently they had a "safety" issue the week before and bolted all the windows closed.

According to what I've seen here, the place is old, that's ok. I can deal with a little old & dated, if it's very clean and in good repair.

... just saw an old report from the Lowell Sun; March 2008.
"The Procaccianti Group Starts $5 million renovation on Lowell, Massachusetts, only downtown hotel, the 252 room Doubletree Hotel".
So what is this about, is this done?!

Well, finally stayed here last weekend. Tired, tired hotel... Everything is old and could use a good cleaning, if not a total replacement of anything & everything. The renovation announced are not even started yet (will they?), the ballrooms/meeting rooms are supposed to be new, but I don't know. I must say that this is a great Priceline value, nonetheless I doubt we'll stay here again, not until the place is revamped anyway. It's not worth naming all of the things that are worned out because everything is. Like most Hilton properties, this is NOT a smoke free hotel, :td: in my book. Our room had a musty smell too & the windows don't open anymore. On a good note, the staff was very nice and we even got a small snack basket and letter from the general manager. I never got any thing of this sort at Marriott or Starwood before, I was very surprised and I wonder if this is typical. If this place is renovated, it will be a hit, if they hold on to this #1 staff! Also Lowell is quite an interesting city, yes, it's working class and relatively poor, however it has alot of character, alot more than any fake & boring suburb for sure...

Ironically, I was working in New England this week and had to stop at an account in Lowell. I did NOT stay at the property but did wander around it a little.

The water view was pretty neat. It is OLD and worn. I did not see a club lounge. Really scary, the 9th floor, side facing the water, maintanence was working in 3-4 rooms at once, pulling paper off the wall revealing HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE,

MOLD on the walls.

I do not know, but it was definitely one of the first 7 rooms on the left side of the hotel.

Just stayed at this property over night, and like a lot of people have commented the place is tired and could do with a thorough clean. We had a corner room on the 8th floor, with dual aspect windows overlooking the canals, BUT the windows where so dirty that you could barely see out of them.

The place looks nice from the outside and is well located in the town, although there's not much to the town (Lowell, Massachusetts), unless you need legal assistance/advice. I've never seen so many law firms in such a small place !!

No Exec lounge, which is standard for a DT, and the complimentary breakfast was OK. Not in any hurry to return to this place.
