Are there any decent international hotels near Shanghai Pudong airport?

Is it the recommendation to go into town, and train to the airport in the morning?

Thanks so much!

Just go into town. There's not much to do near the airport.

Pick a hotel downtown on the Pudong side of the river. When is your onward flight departing?

I should have probably clarified.. I'll have been in Shanghai for a couple of weeks.. so nothing to see/do is needed.
I'm flying in from Taiwan arriving around 6pm.
Departing back home (Seattle) at around 11am the next day..

Just looking to rest, sleep, and fly home..
but also don't want a dumpy hotel..

Also recommend picking a hotel on PuDong side for quick stay. May consider this hotel (had pretty good review for value & my friend stayed once for overnight stay for 550 RMB for the stay) -

Holiday Inn Shanghai Jinxiu

Friends don't let friends stay in Pudong. :D

In all seriousness, I would advise him to stay somewhere in Puxi that has good airport access. As our "Shanghai ground transport data thread" has proven, the Hilton is only about 5 minutes further from PVG than Lujiazui.

Do you want to go out or just get dinner and go to bed?

If you don't want to make the trip to Pudong, you can always opt to stay at the Ramada Airport Hotel.

Stayed there once and it's quite good :)

5 minutes by hotel shuttle and western brand hotel

There are two hotels between T1 and T2 at PVG.
The more expensive one I would not call dumpy, rather a bit freaky.
The rooms have round beds and decor styled like Austin Powers movie.
Quality and cleanliness of rooms is actually good.

If tired of taxis..buses..trains and just want to stay put..not a bad place to hang out for a night.

Was the gym still being renovated when you were there?

Sorry Moondog,

I'm far too lazy to make use of a gym.:D

and it's quite a while ago I stayed there. I've upgraded to an appartment since end 2010.

I have a stopover in PVG with a flight out at 10 am on christmas day and i need some guidance on hotels (travelling with wife and small kids). Taxi is probably the only option.

Current pick is Hongta (for sub-800 breakfast inclusive rate) but i am not sure about traffic or any other issues on the way to PVG. If Hongta is OK when do we need to leave?
Thanks!

That's a pretty good rate, but if you fancy setting foot outside the hotel, you'd be wise to choose a more interesting location. Regardless of where you stay, I wouldn't worry about traffic to the airport.

No going outside this time - just an overnight stopover. How much time should I allow to get to PVG for 10 am flight?

I land at 7am and depart at 5pm. Check-in counter will not open until later in the day, so I will be stuck in the lobby.

I don't really want to go into town as I will be very tired.

Would prefer clean room for about 6-7 hours.

Any hotels near PVG offer day rate?

Thanks

I would call the 168, and ask... can't be very expensive.

And keep in mind almost everything in China is negotiable.
