Sorry, guys i'm the new guy, so maybe is start asking something that have been discussed before.

I was just trying to book 3 promo award tickets from Denmark to Chicago. And I must say that I was rather surprised by the result.

I would have to spend like 75.000 points and pay nearly 1.400 EUR in taxes. (3 persons)

Paying the trip cash is 1.700 EUR. Saving is heavely reduced from my perspectiv.

I just spend my point with SAS and went to Washington DC from Denmark paying like 40 EUR in taxes (one person only)

I am pretty sure that KLM can come up with a calculation that justifices their system.

Whats your experience witk other airliners? (or opinion on this?)

Best and greatings from Denmark

Those aren't (all) taxes. They're fuel surcharges which go into the airline's pocket.

Some airlines do not charge fuel surcharges (United, US Airways, American [except on British Airways-operated segments]).

I think SK is unique amongst European frequent flyer programs in not charging fuel surcharges on award tickets.

Perhaps the OP would like to opt for Business class instead.

It will be double miles (150,000) but same taxes. Then it will be comparing 1400 euro to 7500 euro for paid tickets..
