On June 1, LAN will commence operations using the Sabre system.

This from someone in the family that works for LANPASS.

So no more Amadeus?

Wait ---- you have someone in your family who works for LANPASS? I thought they were all cyborgs! :D

But seriously, wouldn't it be great if you could convince them to have a presence here?

This family member along with many other coworkers commenced training this past Monday.

I will post any corrections as we go along but it sounds like a complete changeover.

If you know anything about Chilean IT and customer service, be prepared for increased blood pressure starting around that time as they get the kinks worked out.

Oye, contacts are very guarded here but this person is not currently in a position to make decisions or influence events and doesn't speak fluent English.

I don't think LAN gives a rats arse what we are talking about on English speaking FlyerTalk.

Thanks VP --- I understand about the family member completely --- just thought it was worth a shot.

As far as the IT changeover -- I am also grateful for the head-sup as I will be sure to make hard copies of all my e-tickets for the rest of 2012 NOW --- and I advise everyone else to do the same. ^

Wow, connection to an insider, nice. VP you might become all of our BFF!
But right, a rocky road ahead... I will be following Plash's sage advice.
Wondering if it has any connection to the TAM merger?

Out of curiosity was that the first time they had had any training from LAN?

So what does this change mean for folks booking with LAN in relation to BA and AA miles after the changeover? Will it be harder to look for award availability online and book (currently a breeze with BA) (kind of)

Actually, no. It is very rigorous just to start out. Interviews, study the manual, tests, more tests, hokey psychological tests, trial period, etc. And that is just to start with the contractor for LANPASS. After that call center experience, then one can actually work directly for LANPASS and receive all the benefits. This is Chile, so frontline workers have no power to make decisions and to do so would jeopardize your employment. That is the reason for seeming incompetence and bad customer service.

Yes --- I believe that most of our complaints begin with this flaw in the corporate culture.

It looks like September, now. I hope my September trip isn't on or within a few days of the switch.

That IS bad news for me as I have a lot of flights in September and October. I am going to print extra copies of everything!

I don't really have a sense for what the change over means to a customer. Is it as extreme as the UA to SHARES cutover? Will itineraries all get new PRNs? Will all the seats get jumbled?

Take a look over at the Cathay Pacific forum. They did a reservations system switchover in February and there are still lots of ripples. Bookings and seat assignments were lost and the reservations phone lines have been swamped for weeks getting pax straightened out. Now that was in Hong Kong where things are pretty organized... We should all just keep our fingers crossed!

This is exactly why I didn't want to book the next trip until the switch was done. But I could not wait. Hopefully they are learning from the lessons of VX, CO/UA, and CX.

Maybe in another timeline in the adjacent universe :D. Yes, moved over to the July-August timeframe according to my internal LAN source.

We already are in the adjacent universe. At least my miles accrue in the non-adjacent universe, and I've yet to join Lanpass.

Maybe they are doing it September?

LAN to update its sales and Check-in system

On September 7, LAN will change its sales and Check-in system, which may cause some delays or congestion to its services. If you plan to travel between September 7-24, we request you take the following precautions.

For passengers who are travelling between September 7-24

1.- Please be at the airport at the time indicated on your boarding pass, 4 hours before your flight.
2.-Take a printed copy of your boarding pass to the airport. Otherwise, you should make sure you have a copy of your sales receipt, the details of your ticket or your booking code with you ( you can find these at My trips).
3.- We recommend that Comodoro, Premium Silver and Premium LANPASS members have their Elite membership card with them.

In addition, for passengers traveling on September 7 and 8

Passengers who want to apply for an Upgrade using coupons to a higher class should do so through LAN.com. If this is not possible, they should apply directly at the airport when they arrive there on the day of their flight.

Also, passengers traveling on September 9

Passengers should only Check-in through LAN.com and apply for cabin Upgrade from September 8 at 12:00 onwards, not before.

That is the latest I've heard. Hopefully all will be rosy by my next trip (near the end of the "warning period.")

Above all, make sure you have your TICKET # with you. In most instances, this will be a long # starting with 045 if LAN or a travel agency issued it. If you can't find your ticket #, call now and ask for your ticket #s. I'd expect that the integrity of the reservations hold up better than the integrity of the ticket #s remaining in sync with the reservations.

We've all seen what happened this year with VX, UA and CX. I'm more optimistic generally with this changeover than VX and UA, because LA is changing between two systems that already communicate pretty well between each other.

Fortunately, I printed out everything when I first heard about this!
