We are visiting Europe in mid May and was wondering if anyone had suggestions on what countries to visit.

Flying into LHR
10 days

Countries we don't want to visit as we have been there before:
UK
France
Netherlands
Hungary
Czech Republic
Austria
Italy

We were thinking Greece but it's a 4 hour flight from LHR and not sure of current economy crisis.
Also thinking about Croatia, Turkey or Switzerland.

are you doing "been there done that", or do you want to visit the country? i ahve been to france about 10-15 times. have not done sw or alpine, have you? done italy may 15 times. never done the south, or sicily have been to london again, about 15 times, is that all there os to great britian, or have i been there and done that?

am going to spain next month. will only stay in barcelona. will stay 10 days. is that all there is to spain, or is there lots left?

had business in italy and london. had to go twice a year. most trips were 10-14 days.

Switzerland definitely and Spain - the interior not the coastal "shell suit" strip. Barcelona's OK though.

You might want to do Scandinavia combined with Poland and Germany, or go the Spanish route and possibly swing by Portugal as well, and maybe even Andorra.

Want to do the "been there done that, add another country notch to the belt" =) Probably will go to italy again in the near future.

Is there still a lot of snow in Switzerland in May? Heard a lot of good things about Barcelona.

Of course you could always visit San Marino and Vatican City from Italy and Andorra from France or Spain ..... if you're simply notching up countries.

How about Croatia and Slovenia?

Spain, then take the boat across to Tangiers in Morocco. Morocco is well worth it.

Otherwise Switzerland. Expensive but great.

I love Barcelona and Catalonia, second the suggestion to do Andorra if you have time. Rent a car and come back through France (Midi), stopping at Carcassonne.

Spain and Mororcco sounds like an efficient idea. I should go Barcelona over Madrid correct?

Would it be possible to do a one way rental going from south to north then taking the eurostar into LHR to go home?

Flying in and out of BCN is likely cheaper and the drive through the Pyrénées and S.France shouldn't take more than 3 days.

After drinking some coffee this morning and looking at the map, I started thinking of a crazy road trip.

Do you think it's too ambitious to drive from morocco to Portugal, across Spain, through southern France, up Italy, through Switzerland, Germany and end in Belgium?

If it's too crazy then just Morocco, Portugal, and Spain or just Switzerland, Germany, and Belgium.

I've been in Switzerland at the end of April and the beginning of May. It was beautiful. Weather was in the mid to high sixties without much snow. Of course there was snow On the top of the mountains you could see.

I'm planning on going again this year at around the same time.

in only 10 days - too much I would have thought. you could easily spend that much time in morocco... driving through the atlas mountains to Fez and Marrakesh etc. I would think 3-4 days morocco (if just one city and a bit of a drive) and then the rest in spain...)

There are so many ways to approach the trip. I'd be tempted to fly from LHR to, say, Casablanca. Don't stay in Casablanca - Take trains from there to Fes and Meknes then up to Tangier. Ferry to Spain. See a little bit of Andalusia and fly back from there. Another approach would be to transfer to Stansted and take a Ryan-scare flight direct to Fes.

Marrakech is also very wonderful, but I'd probably fly from there to the next destination. Seems too far to drive in such a short trip.

It's hard to recommend something without knowing what the OP is after.

I could just as well recommend Spain coupled with Andorra and Portugal as I could Germany and Poland with an overnight cruise to southern Sweden.

It also depends when the OP is going. Actually Gdansk (plus Sopot, the Hel peninsula) is going to be 'the place' to be at in June due to the Euro 2012 Championships, with the likes of Ireland, Italy, Spain and Croatia coming to town. That place will be one, massive party and a ton of fun.

You'll need to go through tunnels as most if not all the passes may be closed because of snow even in May.

In my opinion ten days is not enough time to do one country justice let alone two. That said, Slovenia is a relatively small country and could be easily combined with a trip to Croatia, especially if you concentrate on the areas north of Zagreb.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a road trip, i.e. lots of driving just to get the "lay of the land," between two cities, with very little time for sightseeing, I guess that it is possible to drive from Spain (or presumably Portugal) to Belgium.

How many drivers? Remember that European laws re: drinking and driving are much tougher than in the U.S. so you won't be able to enjoy much of the great wine and beer along the way (at least not if you want to continue driving after a good meal).

I'd go to Finland and Estonia. Or Poland and Czech Republic.
