The general reports from Bond Place are not very positive. I would go to 3.5* (I assume you are bidding on Priceline). The Delta Chelsea is an excellent choice for what is called the north zone and the Novotel is in the south zone. Both are excellent, full service hotels (the Delta is the largest in the city) and have good prices.

i mean something in or not far from downtown where the action is, also resturants/mcdonalds near by. which are those?

i might come there for few days on rental car from US, what are the parking rates there for hourly and 24 hour parkings? $15 range? if i go visit zoos, museums, how much am i expected to pay for hourly parking? how much are the parking taxes there?

I don't understand. Did you look at a map? Did you check the Priceline zones for the hotels I mentioned? The Delta Chelsea is around the corner from Bond Place. You can search this forum to find reports of parking costs. And you won't need a car - walking will get you anywhere easily - transit and cabs will do the rest for less than parking and rentals.

the downtown hotels are pricey with NO breakfast or parking included. I think the parking is $20 plus whatever the high canadian tax is.

I saw a small hotel called STAY INN i think about 10 mile from downtown with free parking and breakfast too. maybe i should stay there

I stay often @ the Chelsea. The best I have seen is $120 which is $135 ai.
I suggest you go a bit more upscale. Search priceline for 4-star downtown (King/Yonge). A buddy got 1 King West (NB That's the name & the address)for $100 incl. breakfast!

is it right in downtown?

The Strathcona is on York Street, across from Union Station (VIA Rail, GO Transit, TTC).

It is "downtown" but this is not really a useful distinction. There are 3 zones in the centre of the city:
- South of Dundas Street - includes Strathcona, Royal York, City Hall, etc.
- midtown (Dundas to Wellesley) - includes Chelsea, Bond Place, Dundas Square, AGO, Ont Legislature;
- uptown (Bloor Street) - includes ROM, U of T,.HI Express.

If you would like, let me know which part of downtown you want to be?

It also depends when you are coming, M-F it's busy in the business downtown, near Union Station area, weekends not so much. The baseball stadium, CN Tower, Islands etc are all in the Southern part. Toronto Zoo is quite a way north of the city. There are McDonalds around, but there are far far far better options for all the meals.
