Thailand - BKK: 2 hrs enough time to connect from int'l flight to domestic on 2 diff airlines?

Just wanted to get folks' opinions if 2 hours is enough time at BKK to make the transfer from an int'l flight on Thai Airlines, going through customs, etc. and then checking-in for a flight to USM on Bangkok Airways?

Seems like it would be enough, but I get nervous about the time to go through customs, and then starting over the check-in process for the USM flight on Bangkok Airways since it is on a separate itinerary from my Thai flight.

Thanks for any advice, thoughts, etc.!

You dont clear customs or immigration in Bangkok. Go to the transfer desk and obtain the boarding pass for the onward to Koh Samui Make sure you advise TG at check in you want your baggage transferred to the Bangkok Airways flight. Have a copy of your ticket to display. You will clear customs and immigration at Koh Samui. Don't be confused by this. There will be signs at the Koh Samui airport directing you to International Arrivals. The flight from Bangkok to Koh Samui will be a mix of domestic and international passengers. Just follow the signs at Koh Samui.

MCT is 75 minutes so 2 hours is clearly (legally) sufficient. Since TG and PG interline bags you do have the possibility of having your bags sent directly to USM. Regardless, 2 hours should give you plenty of time even if you need to pick up your bags.

Don't be confused? Might be difficult when you're giving incorrect information.

If OP is able to get their bags checked through to USM (which isn't a stetch) they will go through immigration in BKK and then pick up their bags and go through customs in USM.

Exactly what I was thinking, scratching my head as I was reading that post, wondering to myself, "Huh?"

If you can't check your bags through to USM (Koh Samui) on Bangkok Airways (PG) for some unique reason (yes, I know that they have an interline agreement and most people have no issues checking bags through) the 2 hours might be cutting it quite fine, even if you are intimately familiar with all the transfer procedures.

You should familiarize yourself with the transfer procedures for either eventuality. There have been some informative threads here on that subject here. I will say that the "mid-field" Immigration station, at the intersections of Concourses D/C/B/A (flights to USM should depart from Concourse A) seemed quite back-logged (at least 20 minutes wait judging by the number of people in line and the number of Immigration officers) on a recent Saturday at 07:30.

I did find this web-page, and I'm sure others will comment if it is inaccurate or out of date.

Thanks everyone for the great information! I've done plenty of traveling in the past, but never to BKK and have never had multiple itineraries for the 'same' trip before. Thanks again.

I'll certainly play it on the safer side in case I'm not able to check bags all the way through. I'm actually flying CLT-MAD-BKK-USM on 2 itineraries, (4 airlines - award ticket) and thought for sure I wouldn't be able to check all the way through, but I will definitely give it a shot.

Thanks again. (And thanks for the welcome dsquared37!)

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a similar question.

Flying EK to BKK, arrive around 00.10 and then PG to CNX departing at 09.20. I understand EK and PG do have an interline. Would I be able to check my bags all the way through and stay in the airport rather than having to depart and then go to domestic?

I have a similar question also. Arriving on Emirates at 18:10 and wondering if a 20:35 flight to HKT will be possible and/or is advisable? I'm assuming the same process applies as for USM, but one can never be too certain.

You have a 2+ hour layover. Yes, it's entirely possible, but easier if you can get your bags interlined.
