New York City - Limo / car pick up at JFK Terminal 8 (AA) - where?

Hi all

I want to organise a limo to pick me and the family up when we arrive at JFK. We are arriving from Bridgetown, Barbados.

When I try to book it it offers me two different pick up points, "Domestic Outside" and "International Outside". Does Barbados count as an international or domestic flight for this purpose - and which one should I select?

PS I am booking Carmel, who I have been using on and off for 15 years now. Any other/better recommendations?

The designation of domestic vs. international terminal is a relic from old times before rebuilding the new Terminal 8. All AA flights domestic or international arrive now in the same Terminal 8. Why the Carmel website has not changed that, is a mystery. Maybe to gauge the time, since international traveler have to clear custom. You can use either designation.

I am using Carmel for many years, and always found them to be reliable and giving decent service. The cars are by and large modern and comfortable. Once in a while you may get a minivan. Once you get your baggage, you call them and the car will pick you up depending on terminal traffic between 5 -10 minutes in pick-up area C. They usually have a Carmel sign with your name on the window. I have found other similarly priced services not as consistently good as Carmel, and personally, have no reason to switch.

Perhaps the most important reason to use Carmel is that they're the only carservice in New York (that I know of) that gives you AAdvantage miles for your booking! I believe it's 100 base and then 1 for every dollar you spend!

I had a terrible driver with Carmel a few years back. He was apparently new to the USA, and it must have been his first time driving in NYC. He almost ran over a bicycle courier, came close to hitting a couple pedestrians in a crosswalk, and barely avoided several car accidents. My 85+ year old grandfather and my mother were traveling with me. We were staying at the New Yorker hotel (which every cab/car driver in NYC should know where it is, as it's right across the street from Madison Square Garden). Our driver took us to some upscale sidestreet somewhere and told us we're here. Thank goodness I had a BlackBerry with Google Maps on it (back when BlackBerry's were popular!), as I had to look up directions to tell him how to get to the New Yorker. All in all, a very stressful experience.

Probably an isolated incident, but thought I would mention it anyway. Carmel should never have hired that guy. Aside from the terrible driver, the sedan we had was nice, and we were picked up promptly at the terminal.

On a side note....is there a better place for this thread? Doesn't seem to be related to AA.

Select international pickup, they usually wait by pickup #3 on the second traffic island.

Or better yet, have them park the black car sedan in the designated parking area and meet you inside the terminal. Most car service companies charge an extra $5-$10 for this, but if you have alot of people, it's alot more organized. And isn't it cool to see a guy in a black overcoat holding a sign with your name on it ??

As this is not genuinely airline specific, it will wheel off to the appropriate forum. /Moderator

As noted, the "domestic"/"international" distinction has become irrelevant. But to the extent the OP has to pick one, he might as well pick international, since he's coming from Barbados. And I think the pickup areas are lettered (A, B, and C), not numbered.
