Ability to go into town, go to other restaurants, etc. - RC at Kaplua hands down. Very little to do on Lanai outside of the resorts, except riding, hunting, fishing. Golf - Great at both. Food - Manele is a little better Beach - Better at Manele but not fantastic at either. Hotel - RC is like being in a high rise. Manele feels more like a resort especially if you get a room with a ground floor terrace. Other - The ability to go up Koele Lodge (good food, intimate relaxed feel, horseback riding, etc.) is really nice. I much prefer Manele. Normally I'd stay at Koele and then take the shuttle down to Manele for beach, golf, etc. aesla11 Mar 1, 12, 10:33 pm Manele Bay is an outdated hotel with a nice beach. RC is nice but a big downgrade from FS Maui. I would suggest going to another Island (FS Big Island or St. Regis Princeville). vuittonsofstyle Mar 2, 12, 10:57 am Going or two weeks to Hawaii. Staying at FS Maui for sure for one week and thinking about a week either at manele bay or ritz. Thoughts? I don't really like either. Ritz-Carlton is vast and more designed for conventions and Manele is very dated. I much prefer FS Lodge at Koele, but there's nothing outstanding in any of these places. FS Hualalai would be my best choice. off2rome Mar 3, 12, 2:05 pm Agree if you have the option and the $$- the FS Hualalai on big island is finest hotel in Hawaii. If it is strictly between RC and FS manele- go to lanai. The koele is a stunning property and completely different from Anything in Hawaii (you can easily visit koele from manele). 4 nights is enough in lanai IMHO. The_Daddy Mar 4, 12, 2:58 am I would pick Manele Bay, and Lanai in general, only if preserved natural setting is a priority in your decision process. Nowhere else in the world I have been able to swim (almost every day) with dolphins just at the door of the hotel, or just look at them from the shore. There is even a very nice reef about a hundred meter from the shore. And you can rent a jeep and go to two or three fantastic places (turtle beach or the hill top) like turtle beach where easily you'll see thousands of turtles and maybe some rare sea seal. That said, I agree the hotel is a bit dated and does not offer too much in terms of spa (very little) and food (only two options: italian and local). But, in case of returning to Hawaii, I will not hesitate a second to be back there at least for 3/4 days. I do not play golf when there I heard other guest commenting the course was spectacular. DJGMaster1 Mar 5, 12, 2:20 pm You'll be bored stiff spending an entire week in Lanai (and even if you did, I'd recommend the Lodge at Koele over Manele Bay) you can certainly use the facilities of both if staying at either one. For me, more than 3 or 4 days on Lanai would make me go stir-crazy. |
