Travel News - 'Mayday' due to bleeping BlackberryView Full Version : 'Mayday' due to bleeping Blackberry Wally Bird Mar 1, 12, 1:06 pm Not sure if this belongs here or in TS&S, but whatever. http://www.avherald.com/h?article=44bb07f6  Doc Savage Mar 1, 12, 1:13 pm Wonder if they will charge the offending passenger, since he did not turn off his phone.... cordelli Mar 1, 12, 1:14 pm How could somebody possibly sit there in row 5 thinking, gee, that bomb they are looking for sure sounds like my blackberry's reminder tone. Unless it was some jerk in row 99 who tossed his bag up over row 5 readywhenyouare Mar 1, 12, 3:35 pm I used to own a Blackberry and know that beeping sound all too well. I can certainly see how it could be a cause for alarm....especially considering the destination was TLV. N965VJ Mar 1, 12, 3:54 pm With the proliferation of portable electronics that make noise, starting with handheld games over 30 years ago, I don't know why the crew thought this could be a bomb. Oh wait, 9/11 Changed Everything™. EDIT: I used to own a Blackberry and know that beeping sound all too well. I have a BlackBerry Tour; what sounds like a bomb? Steve M Mar 1, 12, 4:16 pm If one were capable of building a bomb and sneaking it past security on board an aircraft with ill intent, why would you build in a "start beeping loudly well in advance of Zero Hour" feature? rankourabu Mar 1, 12, 4:26 pm If one were capable of building a bomb and sneaking it past security on board an aircraft with ill intent, why would you build in a "start beeping loudly well in advance of Zero Hour" feature? :D:D Have you never seen http://snltranscripts.jt.org/08/pics/08emacgruber1.jpg Loren Pechtel Mar 1, 12, 8:48 pm With the proliferation of portable electronics that make noise, starting with handheld games over 30 years ago, I don't know why the crew thought this could be a bomb. Oh wait, 9/11 Changed Everything™. EDIT: I have a BlackBerry Tour; what sounds like a bomb? Yeah, real bombs aren't going to make a noise, at least until they go off. (Many bombs use timing devices meant for other purposes that might make a noise when they run out but they're going to go boom at that point.) Xyzzy Mar 2, 12, 2:47 pm H:rolleyes:w dumb. The :rolleyes:nly place bombs make noise before they go off is the movies. Dovster Mar 2, 12, 7:07 pm The problem was most likely not the noise as much as the fact that nobody claimed the hand luggage the Blackberry was in. If any bag is found that no one will identify as belonging to him a plane (or even a terminal) will be emptied as quickly as possible. In this case, all that was required was the passenger saying, "Damn! That's my Blackberry. I must have forgotten to turn it off." I would be very surprised if the crew did not make an attempt to identify the owner before going through the expense of terminating the flight. So it's probably a case of a guy in back dumping the bag. kingke Mar 9, 12, 10:09 am I can certainly see how it could be a cause for alarm....especially considering the destination was TLV.http://www.demama.info/g.php ugandasafaries Mar 21, 12, 6:26 am Didn't the guy/girl who were belonging to the bag said anything? the problem actually started from there that no body claimed the bag.
