I'm planning a trip to Provincetown for July 10-15. Anyone have any recommendations for a nice place to stay? Looking for a room with king bed in a quiet hotel or guesthouse/bed and breakfast. Thanks.

I am considering taking a long weekend in P Town in mid to late September. While certainly a much more "tamed" scene than before Labor Day, how is P Town around that time of year. When do people stop making their weekend jaunts and in general is the weather warm enough for the beach.

I was there once in Sept. and most of the men were gone but there were lots of lesbians. There was also a Nor'Easter that year and it poured. Not a good experience.

I would definitely recomend going in the summer. The hotel we stayed at didn't even have a/c if that tells you how mild the temperatures are there in the summer. Also most of the shows and stand up acts are only there in the summer.

I know PTown has a womens week as well in the fall, so I would definitely make sure I didn't go that week.

We have been to Provincetown in September and October and have always had perfect weather. Less people for sure but by no means quiet and all the restairants stay open until Columbus Day. We have even stayed unintentionally during womens week and enjoyed it :)

For us, July / August have sometimes been muggy and buggy so I'd want a/c at that time of year although we have also had mild weather to be fair. It's certainly more of a scene before Labour Day from a people perspective.

But then I love P-Town so would go at any time of year given the chance

King size beds are qute hard to come by but can be found. We stay at the White Porch Inn which has one room with a K/S bed or (more often) at the Anchor Inn Beach House where the top floor rooms are great (#120 is best IMHO) but a little pricey in July / August as there is a 4 or 5 day minimum stay

I have only stayed at the Brass Key, and it was off peak... VERY quiet, but I can imagine it being a lot more hectic during the peak times... Not cheap either... However, wonderful staff, great breakfast and a great location... I really enjoyed it.

We had the same last year... Had no idea that it was Woman's Week, but you know what, it was lovely. A completely different atmosphere than I was expecting. I am not one of these gay men who thinks that, for whatever reason, gay men and women have to have their own places and not mix, and I thoroughly enjoyed the company of some of the other visitors to the town.

On the other hand, the climb up the Pilgrims Monument nearly killed me... :o

Labor Day is the official end of the high season, but it can still be lovely in Provincetown in September. The water in the bay never gets warm, but if you just want to soak up some sun, there's a good chance you'll have some clear weather. I've been in October and found it sunny and almost warm during the day. On the other hand, it could be cold and rainy by mid-September. One thing is sure: you'll have an easier time finding affordable lodging and dining at your convenience after the summer season.

Transportation can be an issue if you plan to get there by air or boat. The ferries and Cape Air reduce their schedules after the summer.

One fun weekend around your planned visit is Mates Leather Weekend. It's not as leathery as all that but it will be more lively than other weekends around then. I have a friend here in NYC who is flying in for that.

In a word: amazing. Late September is the perfect time of year to visit Provincetown.

A vote for the Somerset House Inn (http://www.somersethouseinn.com/) here - nice rooms, friendly hosts and a good location on Commercial St, but at the quieter end, so a nice porch and garden for people-watching.

Wow, that looks heavenly. :)

I'd recommend going in summer - there's a nude beach that may be more popular in warmer months. Also, it seems as if one part of P-Town is primarily womyn, and the other part is dominated by men and their establishments (anchored around the Dock with it's terrific Sunday afternoon tea dance).

Wow, that looks heavenly. :) It is, really. Amazing breakfast every day, complimentary wine and cheese hour every afternoon, great spa, some days I never leave the property.

... anchored around the Dock with it's terrific Sunday afternoon tea dance.Tea Dance is a daily affair during summer, every day at 4PM. A daily dilemma of going to tea or the wine hour. :)
