Thai Airways Royal Orchid Plus - Making a Special effort for ROP gold?

Hi all...
Has anybody noticed a renewed effort by FAs to focus on ROP Gold pax? I say this because on my most recent flights (all in Y) I have been consistently singled out for a special welcome, offered business class food, served before other pax and so on. They even did this earlier this week when I was in 58J (don't ask) on TG795 LAX-BKK: the FA walked the length of the plane with scallops for me so I didn't have to eat chicken curry yet again. On TG794 the week before the Purser came to tell me I was the only ROP Gold (as opposed to *G) on the plane. Even on BKK-HAN they made a big deal of coming to tell me they would serve me the snack box first (which they did - unfortunately the contents were the same as ever).

I've been ROP gold for five years and this sort of thing used to happen now and again, but now it's happening consistently. Have I just been lucky or is this a renewed effort by TG to focus on their premium pax? I fly more than I used to (128,000 miles in 2011 - mostly in Y so no platinum sadly) but I doubt their system is sophisticated enough to flag this on the manifest. Anyone else noticed a recent renewed interest in ROP Gold pax?

I find they fairly regularly as me ask me my food preference and serve me before other PAX although they usually haven't served drinks by then which is annoying.

You can normally tell how many Golds there are by the length of the print out the attendant is holding when they come to ask your meal pref. I have only had the personal greeting when that list was very short.

On a recent flight to SIN the list was extensive to say the least!

One really nice benefit I had was on a recent flight back from SYD where the purser approached me and told me she had a row of 4 seats that were empty that I would be welcome to as a Gold if I wanted. That was much appreciated !

You are either a very "hansum" man or very lucky ...
As a Plat I get some kind of recognition ( flying C or F only) , at best on 30 % of my flights, but when I do it is usually the VIP treatment ...

Interesting thread !
Having been ROP Gold since 2001 I've only been singled out for special treatment occasionally but things seem to now be improving. My route is LHR-BKK & return.
First time about 5 years ago when the purser came and introduced himself to me, thanked me for flying Thai and being G & asked if he could get me anything ( I asked for another Scotch..). Then nothing until 2010 when I was approached by the purser and thanked me for renewing my G status and was offered a biz class desert. During most of my flights last year ( which weren't busy) the attendent would come to my seat to take my dinner / breakfast selection but as this was at the same time as taking / confirming orders from veggies and special requests I'm not sure this counts as special treatment. Trouble with this is I got the food quickly but finished the meal before the wine was served !

I wonder whether the small concentration on G is a follow on from a survey on status some time ago ( that may have led to Platinum) from Thai when I and I'm sure many other complained about the lack of privileges as a G (my main gripe being the lack of (non GUP) upgrades which are a real rarity now).
On a different customer service point, I've noticed over the last year that the after dinner Brandy doesn't always come around as a separate service and when it does its part of the water / orange top up where its not offered and you have to request it. Just a small point but it's noticeable.
Regards

I'm definitely not "hansum" (even Mrs Hanoian will agree this I fear) so maybe I am just lucky...

As a Gold card holder I have noticed with increased frequency with which the Fa's ask about my meal preferences. Nice touch. At check in I would say that 50% of the time I can get at least one seat free seat to me. Most of te other occasions I can do this at the gate if the flight is a little fuller. At a certain long haul station I also get a row of 4 seats 90% of the time as I am one of few golds flying that route. When I say few i compare it to CPh for example which has many golds. So all in all TG do look after golds nicely. I guess it depends on the rapport you build up with your local stations and your general attitude as well.
Cheers!

Agree too!

I'm a strong believer of "if you treat people well, people will treat you well, if not better"

We are doing business in Cambodia at the moment and we called into their offices to introduce ourselves, as we knew that sooner rather than later we would need help. Sure enough within 72 hours, we were on the phone needing some seats to be released. When relating this story in Bangkok, I was told by a FF that I get special treatment, you can't win, some will never understand:)
