JAL Mileage Bank - AA EXP on Upcoming JL 28 HKG-HND Flight

I will be flying on JL28 in a few weeks time, although I’m booked on the AA codeshare. I had a few questions about the flight, since I’ve only had experience flying CX ex-HKG:

(1) How early can I check-in? I see JL has a flight to NRT at 10:30am, but does the ticket counter stay open until the 3:45pm departure to HND? If not, what time does the counter reopen for the HND flight or am I able to check-in for HND during the check-in time for the NRT departure?

(2) What gates does JL typically depart from and which oneWorld lounges are most convenient for a oneWorld emerald (understanding The Wing F is under renovation)?

(3) As an AA EXP, I realize I can’t pre-reserve a seat on an N fare until T-72 hours, but can I check-in online even though I’m on the AA codeshare and am I eligible to pick a seat in the premium economy cabin at that time or can that only be done at the airport? I see via ExpertFlyer that about half of the PE cabin has already been reserved so I’m assuming JAL elites have already been able to reserve those seats. Do they reserve them only for elites until airport check-in or is it fair game for anyone after T-72 check-in?

I did HKG-HND yesterday. The Wing was open. I think you can check in online. Get your JL pnr. I did it on CX instead of JL. I think the JL flight was in the 20 range of gates and I flew out of 1.

check-in counters usually open ~3 hours before departure. Not sure if they stay open in between JL736 and JL028 flight but you can always check in at the airport express station in the morning if you don't plan to go to the airport early. Personally I will just go there at T-3, I wouldn't want to waste too much time at the lounges. But that's just me.

Whether you can pre-select the PY seats depends on when is your flight. From April 1 JAL will start PY service on HND-HKG so no more free PY seats. If it's before April 1, then yes you can pre-select them during online check in if those are still available. But a lot of them are under airport control and are only released at the airport.

JAL usually uses gates near the Cabin, i.e. near G25.

Thanks for your input. I was trying to get to the airport a little early to do some work before I hop on my flight. Is there any way (besides the gate 45 minutes before departure) to reach a JAL agent within the secure area to get access to airport-restricted seats since I will be checking-in at the train station (they will give my boarding pass there, correct?)

And isn't the Wing F Lounge closed for reservations and they just have a make-shift F area within the Wing C Lounge?

Can anyone confirm if you can check-in for JL028 during check-in for JL736?

you don't need to contact JAL agent if you check in at the airport express station. You get all your boarding passes and u will be ready to go.
