CommunityBuzz! - Phoenix Film Festival Do (Saturday, March 31)

As mentioned in the latter part of this thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/communitybuzz/1246007-phx-do-3.html) (post 100), I recently learned that I'll be headed to Scottsdale at the end of March. Por que? For the second year in a row, the Phoenix Film Festival (http://www.phoenixfilmfestival.com/) has accepted one of my short movies. Woot! :D

Last year, my filmmaking buddies and I headed to a nearby pizza joint after our movie to celebrate. I figure that I'd keep the tradition going, and wanted to see if anyone wanted to join us?

The College Shorts includes a fun movie by a friend of mine who was recently awarded Best Emerging Filmmaker at another festival.

A note about ticket prices -- the $6 price represents a 50% savings. One of the perks of having your film accepted to the festival is being able to buy tickets/passes for half-off. If anyone would like to take advantage of the discount, I am happy to share. :)

A note about the pizza joint -- Feel free to point out that it is silly to do pizza in Arizona. I will agree with you (somewhat, at least). I lived in NY for years, have spent countless hours waiting for a table at Sally's and Pepe's in New Haven, and have been craving a slice from L&B Spumoni Gardens ever since dhammer53's most recent Brooklyn Realty Tour. That said, NY Pizza Department is near the theater, is relatively cheap and has a decent enough pizza. That said, if anyone has any other suggestions, please throw them out there.

We have one Streets of New York Pizza is on Greenway Rd & Tatum Blvd. You can go there. I think I can go there and since I lived in Desert Ridge. I am not sure if I can go there or not. Depends for my work schedule. I'll let you know if I get a new schedule.

Haha -- no kidding. I've even tried to find their secret recipe on-line, but every time I try to replicate their pizza, I sadly end up with some pretty disgusting grub. C'est la vie. :p

A point of clarification on my original post -- my 'filmmaking buddies' typically amounts to only two people -- my friend who writes and directs these shorts and a fellow producer on the project. Not much of an entourage. The good news is that I don't foresee much in the way of intense film-related discussions such as the merits and absurdities of Dogme 95. I am, of course, happy to chat about mattress runs, miles and points. That said, I hope that my FT friends will understand if my movie friends act surprised when they discover that there are other mileage geeks out there. :eek: :D

If you make it. If you ever come see me at Harkins Theatres or perhaps, I can go out for lunch. You decide. If you don't mind that you can come pick me up at my house. I don't have a driver license. I never driver in the car.

While I'd love to join in the lunch and other festivities, unfortunately I've already signed up for the Chandler Century Ride (http://www.chandleraz.gov/default.aspx?pageid=454) that morning. In theory, I guess I should be done in time for lunch, but in reality...I think I'll be laying on the couch once I'm done and home. The furthest I've yet ridden was about 50 miles, and I'm not sure how I'll do with 65.

If anyone has nothing to do that morning and would like to watch, shoot me a PM and I'll let you know what jersey I'll wear that day. Would be kinda cool if there were a Flyertalk bike jersey I could wear...

I would love to attend an event in my back yard, but I have anywhere from 3 to 7 visitors coming from the midwest for Cactus League baseball.

March has been cruising right along and the Phoenix Film Festival opens tonight. If anyone is interested in tickets to Saturday's or Sunday's Arizona Shorts, then I have tickets available for $5. (Regular price is $12.)

Had a nice time at the screening, and at the pizza place. Was disappointed no other FTers showed up. The pizza was quite good.
