I already have a reward reservation, using BA points, on the scheduled new direct NRT-BOS Dreamliner flight on April 25. I'm worried this route will be delayed due to further new Boeing manufacturing problems recently discovered; and JAL suddenly cancel the flight a week before departure while I'm in the middle of vacation.

What happens then? Will JAL put me on another plane since I have a reservation on their metal or is it British Air responsibility since it's their reward reservation? Will they just put me on any available flight with seat or does it have to be another available 'award seat' only, which may not be available for a month? I don't want to arrive in Tokyo for a few days but get stuck there for a month because they have no 'award ticket.' This is my first travel to Asia so I'm not sure how the JAL or BA accomodate non-revenue passengers. TIA.

You will have to deal with BA in this case if it's canceled in advance. So far no delays have been announced for BOS flight

Saw a huge billboard today in the Shibuya JR station for it, so JL must have some confidence that it will go on schedule.

Yes, because they will use 777 (probably 777-200ER) as their back up plan and the route will be launched as planned

Japan Airlines, which has 45 787s on order, expects to have its first in place when it starts service from Boston to Narita International Airport on April 22, but will use a 777 as a backup. The airline will operate four flights per week until daily service starts June 1.
