When my company signed a contract with Avis, the heavier travelers were comped First, while everyone else got Preferred. From what I can tell, First gives you a black membership card, rather than a silver one, but that's about it. Same acceptable Preferred service and some useless weekend certs that you'll likely never use.

You've got to be joking on a comp to Chairman's?

I too would be surprised if you get anything higher than First. Though I don't think there's anything higher than Chairman's. Next would be President's, but I don't think there's much of a difference between Pres and First. With First I consistently get multiple class car upgrades, but I've also rented 33 days this year already.

But hey, Go big or Go home, right? Good luck!

My goal was just to obtain the choice of vehicle just like i currently get with National, honestly i didn't put forth the intensive research into the different tiers and such.. I just figured there has to be a reason why a company of about 100k employees are locked in with the avis/budget group for rentals, that and my job is going to need me on the road 30 weeks a yr ( thats alot of cars, hotels, and flights)

That's pretty good! So did you get a status match through your company rep, or did you just call up Avis and request a match?

I requested it using one of the 5 reps that deal with my company, it was pretty painless actually, a few emails exchanged and that was it, i did prove my status with other companies just in case i was met with speed bumps but they was pretty easy going about it, they offered First, i turn it down, then they offered PC

I'm sure i could have gotten CC but i'm sure i'll get bumped after the extreme traveling i will be doing come july

I'd be *very* surprised if they would comp you to Chairman's Club, unless you are a CEO or manage the travel contracts at your company. CC is not given to anyone based upon volume of your rentals alone.

Avis will not status match into CC. Even if you were the CEO or managed the travel of your company, it would have to be a large (several hundred or more employee) company.

Also, as IAHTraveler said, CC is not given out based on volume of rentals either. You should still be happy with PC. The upgrades are usually decent.

There is a tremendous difference between AVIS First (which is a joke) and President's Club, which is a "by-invitation-only" program.

Under PC, you can pretty much have any car on the lot that you want. By definition, its a double-upgrade, but almost all agents will give you whatever you ask for. I consistently receive Cadillacs, Infinitis, BMWs, any of the 'cool cars' whenever i've asked, and typically rent Class D (Standard).

The CC benefit is similar in terms of upgrades, but there are more perks to CC beyond the upgrade. Do a search in this forum on Chairmans Club or Presidents Club. There are several threads describing the benefits.

Thank you. I know the perks of Chairman's, but never fully understood PC. It seemed to me that PC was an invitation into a glorified First tier, now I know. I usually can get any car that I ask for, and only have to pay the difference when it's a "Luxury" car (usually ~$10/day).

like i was saying i'm not asking for a comp to CC BUT it seems pretty obvious that it's a dollar value attached to those who are moved to CC...I'm not guessing, i'm certain that whatever that is i will blow pass it but if there really isnt a difference bwt the 2 other than the ride to the airport then i really could care less, I just wanted to be able to swap to an prem SUV or nice car when i wanted to..

I think it's unlikely that you'd be able to surpass, on your own, the dollar amount attached to CC status. It seems to be tied to movers and shakers of companies who can leverage the rental car accounts of all their employees for Avis.

Hell you may be right, it's not really a big deal honestly, I'm extremely partial to National would like for them to get this huge road budget...Maybe Avis will make me a believer, but if not when the vote comes up for the rental car company for 12-13 me and the 186 other road warriors will make our voices heard :)

Thanks you guys for your advice, the least we know from all of this is that Avis will Comp you to PC if you use a travel rep^

Glad that you have had good upgrade experience as a PC. When I was a PC my upgrades were pretty poor. Had a hard time getting into the Caddy's. Infiniti's and BMWs, I was laughed at when asking for them. Pretty much, I was given a Town Car or Grand Marquis as an upgrade. It was not enjoyable.

Now, as a CC, I have been getting some very nice upgrades. Plus, the ride back to the terminal is an underrated perk. I use it constantly and love not having to take my luggage out of the car (except for the time that I left the remote key fob in my pocket and didn't realize it until I had gone through security).

If you don't mind me asking what do you think was the reason for your being bumped from PC to CC??

I could tell you, but then I would have to kill you. ;)

I had the PC through my Amex Cent. There are other ways to get CC than being a top decision maker (like a Marquis Jet membership).

They chose them to save money on travel expenses.

You don't. At least not unless you work for a major company with an Avis contract. If your company has a contract with Avis, then whomever at your company manages the Avis relationship can arrange PC for you if your travel warrants it, and if your company has any more PC slots available.

Each company gets a certain amount of PC slots based on their contract with Avis. For example, if a company has 1,000 traveling employees who rent cars, they might have as many as 30-50 PC slots. The company might have CC slots too, which might be designated for the CEO, the COO, the CFO, the Chairman of the Board (if separate from CEO), and maybe one more slot for a division President, in other words, a 1,000 employee contract might get 5 CC slots.

Avis also sells Chairman's Club, and the quoted prices over the last few years have been in the range of $1,995 to $2,295 per year. There has also been a yearly promotion through AMEX for the last three or four years, which I think was set up as an auction once, and the other times as a lottery allowing the 10-20 winners to be able to buy CC for one year, and the prices I have seen were $995 and $1,200 for the two years in which I checked into it.

The last way that I am aware of to get CC is by corporate nomination, the most common of which is Marquis Jets, a corporate sister of NetJets, which is a fractional jet ownership company, with a minimum buy in of $100K per year, both are owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway. I would think that there are less than a handful of other companies with corporate nominations as a benefit, such as maybe Exclusive Resorts (owned by Steve Case, average buy-in of $400K) and similar, but I do not know which companies those might be for sure.
