Got an email from Indigo telling me that BLR is closing for maintenance work from 10:30 AM - 5:30 PM, march 11 to april 3.
What a pain .. at least this shouldn't affect international ops and peak hour domestic ops.

Hold on!! You what? For a month? Only in India.....
Right that's blown my plans. I was scheduled to leave DEL-BLR-MLE in middle of March so I am guessing that won't work?
AI has a connection via TRV to MLE too right?

Just checked it leaves at 11am. That means a overnight in TRV? Not a option for me as I just about took out 3 days.
What other options do I have?

Just spoke with AI and they are saying that all flights are running as per normal and that they have not been advised. I asked her to check with her supervisor who confirmed the same.
Needless to say I am not taking their word for it.

really hard to believe that they would shut down all flights for a full month!
I fly into Bangalore on April 3rd .... though its early in the morning. I leave during the day on April 6th. Knowing India's timelines ...... I can easily see that I may have to change plans.
Does this mean only early morning flights would run?
I guess this is good news for Kingfisher. Fewer flights to cancel!

I interpret that to mean the airport is closing daily between the hours of 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. I imagine it will be open overnight.

atleast that's the plan filed with dgca for now...
This is really messy.. Have 3 connections to make via BLR in that time frame. Spoke to Jet yesterday who confirmed the closure but they haven't updated their schedules yet.

Spoke with AI yesterday and just now. They are not aware of anything and all flights are operating as normal.

Is BLR busier during the day or at night? I would have thought that closing it at night time would have been better?

most definitely post 5pm is the busier time.. plus leaving nights open keeps all the internationals going... i dont believe its such a bad thing.. business community usually takes pre-10am and post 5pm flights... so... but yea, its embarassing as hell to be doing a major repair on a runway barely 4 years into operations...
