All Nippon Airways Mileage Club - Any news about timeframe of SJC-NRT?

I have a trip coming up in May that I would like to book sooner than later though I would be willing to hold out a bit longer if I could do it on a 787. My understanding was that the flight was expected to start in April though they haven't seemed to have opened any ticketing yet. Any word on when the route will actually begin service? I assume any holdup is with delivery of the planes, no?

Thanks for all your help!

Most likely October 2012 or beyond. When there's an official announcement it will be posted here.

No news. Look for an official start date by ANA on their website or internet. No one knows but ANA. IMO, like everyone else, late 2012 to early 2013.

Yes - there are further delays in 787 delivery. It seems that there are a couple of ANA 787 ready for delivery and being tested, but there is apparently a new problem (something that will have to fixed on the ones already delivered). There are also more than 10 other ANA 787 completed which are being reworked (some of these are the early models). There are also a few more ANA-destined aircraft in final assembly. And currently the lines are making 3 787 per month, but no deliveries were made in February and probably not even in March (JAL are waiting for their first one due to fly in April). So it depends on how long it takes to rework the early aircraft and fit out the cabins, along with any new issues - also which configuration ANA has selected for the cabin layout in the nearly complete aircraft. It is possible that these could be delivered fairly rapidly once these problems are sorted. And once they have another 3 international configured 787, HND-FRA will go daily and SJC and SEA will begin.

However, as the above posters say, no one knows at this stage when they will come. Could be soon, but more likely not. They are not even making promises for the next one for HND-FRA, just that it won't be delivered in March. So even ANA have given up predicting when Boeing will deliver and it doesn't look like they want to start selling tickets to SJC or SEA, when they don't have the spare capacity to cover flights if Boeing lets them down again.

:eek: That is a massive delay. Boeing were claiming that the most recent builds off the production line only had a few hundred problems that need to be worked out, as opposed to the thousands still to rework in the early undelivered builds. I wonder if they will have to recall the aircraft already delivered to sort out newly found issues?

If they plan on having SJC being and O&D route, early 2013 seems right. But starting in the slow period is going to make them cut fares to fill the plane and rely on SFO to pick up the slack. IMO, I look for them to start in April/May 2013.

Looks like ANA's services to SJC are starting in less than 2 weeks!

Unfortunately rather than being a Boeing 787 as planned it's a bus. And no, I don't mean an Airbus - I mean an actual bus!

The new Airport Shuttle service is available to passengers boarding ANA's San Francisco - Narita flight!
The service between San Jose International Airport and San Francisco International Airport operates daily starting June 1, 2012.
