150,000 pts for 6 nights at any property (catagories 1-5), and 175,000 pts for cat. 6.
I have a ton of miles on UA (and, therefore *A) and would like to use them for a free ticket in conjuction with one of these hhonors awards. Any amazing international suggestions?
I see that Hilton has a number of properties abroad (though never stayed in any). If I was to pay out of pocket for the 6 nights, what would cost the most? Just trying to get the most bang for my buck (or points). thanks.

I can't actually give you a report, because the trip does not happen till next week http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif, but, the 2 awards I will be claiming on this trip are GLONP2 at the Conrad HKG, which, if is anything like the Conrad BKK, then IMHO a good way to spend your points. Actually it's probably better only because of the price difference. HKG is on the expensive side.
The other one is a Vacation award or whatever they call it, a 6 day African Safari in Kenya(this one is 250K). 1st and last night at the Nairobi Hilton and the other 4 nights at the www.saltlicklodge.com. (http://www.saltlicklodge.com.) The transportation between the hotels is included and all the food and game drives at the lodge are also included.
I'm sure others will recommend Hawaii and some European resorts.
It all depends on what you like to do.

This is a popular topic. I used a GLON last year in tokyo (100,000 pts - before the double deflation - the tokyo hilton now requires the premium glon) and am using a GLONP (150,000 pts - before the deflation) at the Cavalieri in May.
Rome - $400USD a night
Tokyo - $180UDS a night
If I was paying I wouldn't stay at these hotels...
But if I were that's at least $3500.00 saved. Plus as a Diamond I get free breakfast which saves even more.
The Cavalieri is hard to find award space at if u are not diamond.

I can say we've stayed using a GLONP or comparable award at the Conrad Hong Kong, the Langham (in London), the Paris Hilton (twice), and am currently holding one for the Cavalleri in Rome. And I've done the Safari vacation.
All of them are wonderful. By far, the most unbelievable experience of them was the Safari (of course, that's the most recent one, too, so memory is still fresh). But it's the most challenging, too. There are plenty of good reasons why this doesn't suit some folks. I found it awesome, truly wonderful.
The hotels in Hong Kong and London are nicer than the tired Paris one; yet Paris is quite magic, and its lounge is usable, whereas it's a fight to get the Langham to even let you in for breakfast. Of course, the swimming pool at the Langham's spa is magic. But I'm hoping to use another GLONP at the Conrad Hong Kong again next, if I can ever get AA to offer some decent fares, with enough lead time that I can take more time off from my business. So my vote is the Conrad Hong Kong: wonderfully situated on Hong Kong Island, with a great lounge, superb service, and clean, luxurious rooms with an incomparable view.
I'd like to hear how some of the other Conrads in Asia stack up, by people who have tried 6 nights at them, AND the HK hotel. I haven't tried a 6-night stay in Bangkok, Shanghai or Singapore, but again, if AA ever hops to it, so will I. I was a little disappointed by the Tokyo Hilton (near Shinjuku). Awfully small rooms, but of course I didn't book 6 nights, either.
Some of the other posters just love the Cavalleri, or the St. Lucia Hilton, or the Maldives. I can't comment on the Cavalleri until May. Can't wait.

Thanks for all the replies -- I've done a safari in Africa (not through Hilton) and it was amazing...not enough points for that option right now. The Maldives sounds great...just need to figure out if *A can get me there...

There are no more awards for the Maldives in 2004. There is a thread on this somewhere here. They are renovating one island.
As for *A - SQ flies there from SIN.
There is also an OS (Lauda) flight from VIE via DXB, but it seems practically impossible to get award space on that one (last I knew, it was a 737-800).
