Just done a OOL-SYD-OOL run, down Friday back Saturday. 2 x adult, 1 x infant.

Check in OOL - cannot have 1A/C as it is an emergency exit (???)(737-800) there is a bulkhead in front, as there is 1D/F but no, it is an emergency exit. My question as to door 1L not being an emergency exit was met with a blank stare, clearly a check-in chick without a clue.... -5

No lounge at OOL yet, but one coming...+0

On board, very helpful staff, infant 3 weeks off 2nd birthday - give her her own seat, reseated me; 1C, Mrs; 1D, mini; 1F - takeoff to landing. Great service, friendly crew, lots of chatting about travel and tips for restaurants O/S emailed the next day... +10

On arrival; luggage damaged, priority tags missing off all 3 pieces of luggage, luggage out last... -10

Return journey; Moved to flight 1 hour later as aircraft sub had no J class; check-in, no problem, check-in chick knew her stuff, new aircraft, bulkhead, no problem with infant. Gate check pram, all good... +5

Lounge; called to desk; cannot seat row 1, emergency exit (737-800). Explained flew row 1 the day before, much to-ing and fro-ing with someone on 'phone - yes, J class has bulkhead, infant can seat in row 1... +0

On-board; infant must sit on lap for take-off and landing as per ticket, OK as that is the ticket; great service, good wine, put into 1 hour holding due to weather, kept updated and fed more wine... +10

Arrival OOL; weather very poor, airstairs, asked where umbrellas for J were, no umbrellas to descend stairs and cross tarmac... -5

Overall, +5 but DJ J class still have to get the 'little things' right. Yes I will give them another go.

Sounds like everything that could wrong..did...!

Poor thing...I had two flights this week and all was pretty good except for the MEL/SYD leg which had the plane coming in from a different way and therefore arriving 1/2 hour late (it circled Sydney a couple of times!)

The bulkhead with the infant should be a no brainer..

What did they serve you?

Yikes!

I am thinking of doing SYD - MEL - SYD in J in April... might need to re-asses that!

OOL-SYD was morning tea, warm ham and cheese croissant and fruit salad - nice

SYD-OOL was afternoon tea, cheese plate brie and vintage tasty with fig paste, needed more crackers which were very good, spiced carrot cake a good WA Shiraz. Very nice and quite substantial for a snack.

Put the QF cheese plate to shame.

Friends of mine who are flight crew say its improving every day.

I'm considering SYD DPS in J
It's costing at $1350 approx with 160 status credits.

Will maintain my silver status that I got matched from GA

GA is $2650 and will maintain silver on GA

So with my Dom travel will keep silver on DJ save $1300 compared to a better service and Silver in GA

Will do a TR

don't get me wrong, the flight crew were fantastic, it was ground crew who either didn't know their stuff or did not think beyond the old DJ model (umbrellas - which were sitting by the terminal door).

Ah yes well I see your 1 bad flight and raise you 6 awesome trips in J and .75 of an awesome 1 in Flexi-Y (sadly J is not saleable to LST even though the aircraft had J seats). For me domestic J on Virgin over Qantas is now a no brainer. Into OOL it is the only J option! That's someone coming from someone who has been top tier with Qantas for the past 11 years.

Thanks for the mini TR VH-RMD, a product that I am looking forward to sampling...sitting in Row 3 is tantalisingly close, but not quite there.

Should put up some of my mini_TR's on my VA trips thus far...

QF J is comfortable but really is not too brilliant for the price. It would not be hard to beat it. I noticed last week that the green salad has been enhanced away on a dinner flight in QF J.
