LAN LANPASS - LAN discriminates against Peruvian residents

Comparing km earnings on LE fares (LE fares are for residents only), for example:

Kms for national routes LE fares in Chile 100%
Kms for national routes LE fares in Colombia 150%
Kms for national routes LE fares in Argentina 100%
Kms for national routes LE fares in Ecuador 100%
Kms for national routes LE fares in Peru 25%

Is this correct?

but then again ... premium silver for peruvians with only 6 mediumhaul business class segments or comodoro with only 8 mediumhaul business class segments on LAN.

for example - air france: you won't earn segments on domestic flights in france when you are a french resident. all others do

seems that residents of spain only receive 25% km on domestic flights in peru for LE fare types ... didnot check other countries.

Well, LE fares (Base Plus) aren't residents-only in all of the countries that you mentioned, just in Perú and Argentina.

Well, just because you can find discrimination elsewhere doesn't make it right here.

And no, residents of Spain will not receive any kms because they shall not buy Base Plus tix. Base and Base Plus is for residents of Peru, which obviously residents of Spain are not.:)

You conveniently forget to mention that residents of Peru pay less than half what gringos and other foreigners pay for domestic Peruvian flights.
Just saying..

No,no, didn't forget that... And totally against it... Just pointing out another case of LAN discrimination based on nationality/residency

LAN is non-discriminatory about whom they discriminate against :-)

If a Peruvian pay 50% of what every other pax on Earth pay for the same flight, how can you expect the same level of service / perks / mileage accrual?

When I was in Peru last months, I would have been glad to be able to use Peruvian fare and kiss good-bye to the (useless) miles.

I smell the typical rant against LAN from non-Chilean.

Two months ago, it was interesting to see and hear all the unfounded chauvinistic rants against LAN Peru (perceived to be and operated from Chile) when the Lima airport was closed despite the fact that it is the aviation authority from Peru that screwed up big time and LAN had to pay for the damage.

Again just saying...

:) ah minos your sense of smell might not be good today, I was impressed the way LAN managed the problem caused by airport authority and said so.

Just to be clear, those cheap fares to which you refer are Base fares and so cheap I'd agree with you they don't deserve many, if any, kms. Except for Colombia, all other countries give 25%, Peru included, for these CK and SP fares, seems fair enough, treating all equal.

I am referring to LE fares which typically are 2x cost of the cheapest base fares. And if these domestic route fares deserve 100% in Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Equador, then they shouldn't get only 25% in Peru. Something smells, but maybe you have a cold and your sinuses are blocked. :)

To make it easier for folks to follow, here is the table:

Good for LAN, they have listened and changed the earning rate for Base Plus fares in Peru to 100% (from the 25% I was complaining about) matching all other countries (except where the Colooombian wags get 150%).

See the table linked above. It now states “Desde el 24 de septiembre de 2012, la familia tarifaria Base Plus en Ruta Nacional Perú pasó de 25% a 100% de acumulación de KMS. LANPASS.”

I have no proof, but my Twitter complaint about this discrimination got several Likes before LAN removed it, my Peru INDECOPI denuncia was proceeding to the administrative stage when LAN USA responded to a DOT complaint giving me the extra miles and promising to fix the website where it “incorrectly” listed 100%, and my discussions with LAN Peru managers where they seemed surprised and embarrassed, all maybe or maybe not, made a difference. Who knows?

Add: By the way, Senor LAN, this change encourages me to up-purchase to Base Plus so you will get more soles from me.

I'm betting that's what did it. Having been on the receiving end of an INDECOPI fine, I know whereof I speak.

You could use those extra soles to buy miles during the next half-price sale which will again undoubtedly be restricted to Peruvian residents only :p

Hey, be nice to me, when bingo talks, LAN listens, :D as per my Sep 3 2012 post:

Boy, it has been a while since I saw their 1/2 price KM sale... and given they may be a bit swamped with mergers and the change overs, I guess I should not hold my breath?

Regardless, I agree with you and would fight unfairness whenever it raises its ugly head. However, they have had “for everyone” sales previously:

Hey!
LAN is selling kms from tomorrow thursday until monday at half the price. This is 1 cent a km. (normally it'd be 2 cents a km.). To buy, go to LAN.com, click on LANPASS, then click "Buy kms." under the redemption boxes.
Hope at least someone takes advantage of it, since it's a really good promo...

and your reply:

Thanks for the heads up - I have used this promotion in the past to top up my account, but finding award availability in business from Australia to South America is almost impossible these days. So I'll probably give it a miss this time - it is tempting at $2500 if you could book the tickets!
One thing though - are you sure that any airline activity extends the point validity? I thought it was only LAN flights that did that.

Thanks again Mavalenzu for posting this - no way I would have known about it otherwise. And despite what I said previously, I bit the bullet and purchased 100000kms - half a return Syd-GRU in business class for $US1000 is pretty good in my book - just hope I can find the seats!

But yes, I know your comment was basically tongue in cheek. ;)

You have to admit, at least the last two sales have been for peruvian residents only, and the chilean promo is exclusive for Santander clients (which is not that hard to become).
Anyway, as a chilean I do feel discriminated in Perú and Argentina if I wanted to go and fly inside. This is one of the factors that have been keeping me from actually visiting Perú (I'm not counting long and horrible connections at the "Callao" Airport)

Wow, thanks for the view from the other side. Discrimination is so illogical... and so wrong.

You know, of course, that in Perú LAN is seen as a Chilean company wanting Peruvians to bend over to get it where the sun don't shine. Giving Perú residents 25% and Chileans (and others) 100% kms just solidified this view. I am glad they saw the light. Maybe you will see the light and visit Peru more, I hope. :D

Look again - my tongue was not in my cheek :)

PS Given that LAN listens to you could you ask them to stop decorating my bags with pretty orange Priority Tags when its clear that the baggage handlers at EZE have something against elitism. They might send me to a work camp in the Pampas if LAN keeps identifying me as someone whose bags should reach the luggage belt next to last :(

Yes, I mentioned on a different thread that after having my Priority tagged bags come out last on every EZE flight I asked the girl at the LAN counter about my paranoid suspicion of bag handler union anti J traveler bias. She confirmed my mistrust.
