Welcome to Flyer Talk job2cu :)

Your post is hard to follow. I think you are saying the airpoints program is rubbish (no argument from most FTers on this) and asking for suggestions for other programs.

It would help if you indicate what you are looking for in a frequent flyer program (status benefits? upgrades? awards?) and your travel patterns.

Some punctuation would be great too. :)

What's bad value for one person works for someone else. It all depends on your travel patterns.

With regards to airlines and there program. I am kris flyer gold. Though the program itself is good for getting to gold... There is no chance of upgrades or getting awards for upgrades... I was looking at 1 k program and it gets you more in term of upgrades and air miles earned.. Correct me if i am wrong.. This is my hiccup as I fly 3-4 times a year Sydney to London. I usually avoid America needing visa etc.

I heard United give compl. upgades right (6) if I am not mistaken. NZ gives 2 for Gold or Gold Elite members. You can use dollar points to get more too ..

United requires a few flights on United or maybe their v close partners per year to get status I think ....

SQ cannot get upgrades? They have an upgrade table right? Or you saying v hard to get the dates you want?

The AirNZ program can be a bit harder to get status than some.

Gold requires 900 status points. 1500 for gold elite.

If you plan to fly AirNZ:
http://www.airnewzealand.co.nz/status-points-earned-on-air-new-zealand-flights

If you plan to fly SQ or others *A partner, it's on the same link but bottom half of that page.

If you can get Gold then look at airpoint dollars which is what you can use to get that upgrade/award. If you live in NZ you can get the new card which allows one to deposit money into it and use it for upgrades. As airpoint dollars = money currency.

UA give six system wide upgrades to 1Ks per year, and you can earn more, as well as using miles for upgrades.

There was no UA flight requirement in the past, it was rumored to be coming with the 2012 MileagePlus revamp, but I didn't see anything in the T&C when I looked earlier this year - so it may or may not be a requirement.

SQ*G is pretty low status in the SQ pecking order - you are behind all PPS members (LPPS, PPS Solitaire, PPS, etc), and the front cabins are usually very full on SQ, so getting an upgrade is tough.

If flying SQ in discount Y it is probably not be worth it crediting to NZ, unless of doing lots of short intra-Asia hops on flexible fares. Many SQ discount fares do not earn miles at all.
