Hilton HHonors - Separating Merged Accounts - Anyone have any experience?

My ex wife and I split our merged account when we separated. What was done was 2 new accounts were created and 50% of the total points balance were credited each of the new accounts has diamond status as per the old Household Account.

Now I notice that the old account was never closed and essentially still exists. I have my own account with a reasonable points balance and the old joint account (for which I still have a card) has a balance of c.250k points.

What would happen if I were to burn some miles from the old account? Would someone realise that this should have been closed and try to recover them from my new account or would they just come from the old account and essentially thus give me an extra 250k points to play with?

This doesn't seem very honest?

That wasn't the question regarding being honest

I would think that I would be prepared to have them pull it out of your personal new solo account. If they do I wouldn't get upset, but you never know, you might get lucky.

On another note: I didn't know that they would do this "split joint accounts"

Was it a 50/50 split or did you tell them an exact point allocation?

Yes they did a 50:50 split, was the only basis they would do it, (which p***** me off a bit actually since I earned most of the points).

Both people had to sign to agree too, so I would advise people to think twice before combining accounts, otherwise it could be very difficult to extract yourself.

I guess they do not split accounts often
hence why the other account probably remains live.
