Alitalia MilleMiglia - bereavement (Compassion) fares question

Does anyone know if Alitalia does any after-the-fact bereavement refunds or credits? UA does and I am in the process of doing that but before calling Alitalia I thought I'd ask anyone here for their thoughts.
Is calling in Italia or the USA better or worse?
I could find nothing on either webpage and I figure they do not but I want to try.

Provero' domani.
Ciao

International airlines flying international routes do not offer bereavement fares as far as I know. Most fares can be bought right up to time of departure unlike US domestic fares.

You may ask.. but unless you have already purchased a special fare prior to travel, AZ is under no obligation to offer you a 'cheaper' fare.

Try the Italy line, definitely, but I'm not sure they'll be able to offer you anything.

By bereavement refund you mean a waiver, I think.

According to the general rules:
http://www.alitalia.com/IT_IT/Images/65-48510Condizioni_generali_di_trasporto_IT.pdf

There's no waiver for death, except for death of passenger, of a travelling companion, or death of a 1-st degree relative ALONG THE TRIP ROUTE, in which case you can move the rest of the trip free of charge.

Waiver for death of other relatives or in other conditions is not explicitly stated, but I would try asking nicely.

So....I called the Italian line this afternoon and they allowed me to change the return portion for free. Which is good as I didn't know when I'd be travelling on the return. They also gave me some frequent flyer miles. It didn't seem to hurt that my cognome was the same as his wife's. Ah that 'tis the Italian way.

thanks for the advice and replies.

Indeed :)

And, if condolences are in order, please accept mine.
