National - Drop in a different location

I have a reservation that I picked up from Tampa, FL that is scheduled to be returned to Tampa, FL. Due to a change in plans it is a lot easier if I drop the car in Sarasota, FL. Anybody know how much National charges to do this? Is it then considered a one way rental with one way rates? Thanks for your help

You can try a dummy booking to estimate the cost, if any, or call up customer service.

Sometimes within Florida there aren't any one-way fees associated with different pick up/drop off points. IIRC this arrangement exists between MIA and PBI, for example. Agree with drzoidberg, call up and ask.

I've done the same thing between MCO and TPA. Originally booked my return for Orlando but then switched to Tampa. When I updated my rental reservation, the rate didn't change. I would bet that Sarasota is the same deal but run the dummy booking online and see.

I read somewhere in the hallowed halls in the forum that drop fees are forbidden by FL state law for one-way rentals within the state. However as I recall it was somewhat disputed as to whether or not it was actually "law" or just common practice among FL agencies.

FWIW I've found dealing with the location directly often yields the best results. I was once looking at flying into Hamilton Airport but then departing from Toronto. One-way rates were the usual ~$200/day fare, but the agent at the location said it would only be a $50 drop charge in addition to my already quoted rate. YHM and YYZ are about the same distance as Tampa to Sarasota.
