Virgin America Elevate - Baggage Question On VX/CX Connection

I will be flying DFW-SFO on a Virgin America ticket, then SFO-HKG-BKK on a separate Cathay Pacific ticket (overnight layover in SFO)

1.Since there are 2 PNRs involved, will Virgin allow me to check my bags all
the way to Bangkok?

2.Will the fact that I am connecting to an international carrier affect the
baggage fees in this situation? The reason I ask is that a friend of mine
recently flew DFW-Europe on 2 separate PNRs (American and Air Berlin) and
when she checked in with American, she was told that since Air Berlin was
the "major carrier for the trip" that their baggage rules prevailed for the
entire trip and the baggage fee for the AA DFW-MIA flight (normally $25)
was waived.

An over night layover, in which I assume you want to have access to your bags and two separate tickets numbers on separate PNRs will not get your fees waived.

AB is part of one world and since you were connecting, presumably same day and not overnight can be joined.

Does this mean they have an interline agreement? A quick google search says they do but we know that is hardly definitive. Anyone have experience with VX and CX together?

No, I don't want access to my bags overnight. I have a small carryon that I can use at the hotel that night. Also, AB is not oneworld yet. That is scheduled to happen on March 20. The date had not even been announced when my friend did her AA/AB trip last fall.
