I will have one night in Phoenix (arriving ~5pm and flying out the next day in the afternoon) and would like to stay somewhere else than the Airport area..I have been to Phoenix previously but then I had a rental car and didn't stay that close to the downtown/services so my knowledge is limited.
Thanks for any tips / insight where/what would be nice place so that dining options wouldn't be limited to the hotel bar/diner.
Hilton/Priority Club property would be nice but not mandatory by any means.
Thanks!

For downtown PHX hotels there is a fairly new Sheraton, a newly rebranded Renaissance, a brand new Westin, and an HI Express. If you like Italian, I would recommend Cibo which is located in an old remodeled home with a very nice patio dining area. If you happen to like Thai food there are a couple of places worth looking at, Thai'd Up, and Thai Elephant.
I would recommend checking out the Arizona Republic's restaurant critic's page. I don't think that he has ever really steered me wrong with his reviews. You can find him at azentral.com, look for Howard Seftel's reviews.

There's also the Hyatt Regency Phoenix which is right in the middle of Downtown and is quite a nice hotel, it's where I would stay but that's just me. I do support the restaurant recommendations above and will add that if you're looking for something fun, Alice Cooper's Cooperstown is quite good, though a little touristy/kitchy.
