Italy - aging bones need softer hotel mattress

So, reports online indicate that Italian mattresses are quite spartan, i.e., very firm. My days of sleeping just about anywhere on anything incuding sidewalks in Bombay are way over, so I'm thinking my spouse and I will need some respite from 4 days of Rome B&B bed. Thinking of Salerno or somewhere around Amalfi, at around 200 euros. Don't require or really want "American" or business atmosphere, just the mattresses. But if those are the only hotels they're in, so be it. Ditto for Venice, maybe for one night break of B&B there also. Know it's more expensive there. Thanks for any ideas or testimonies!
