going for work to germany and need to leave 3young kids(9,7,4) and wife to their own devices for a day-can anyone suggest anything interesting for them in cologne, dortmund area to do?would be in august
thanks
The Ch:pcolate museum in Cologne is generally a favourite with kids. They also might like Claudius Therme (http://www.claudius-therme.de/en/) in Rhinepark, which is conveniently across the river from the zoo. There is a cable car over the river (http://www.koelner-seilbahn.de/english/index.html) that connects the tw:cool:.

The Zoo in Duisburg maybe a good idea. It is easy to reach by train and bus.
If they have a car, there are a lot of nice things to do with kids in the Sauerland-Area http://g.co/maps/j2c42

Do they like football/soccer?
Dortmund has the largest football stadium in Germany, home to the German champions Borussia Dortmund. You can do a tour a few times a week as well.
