Other North & South America Frequent Flyer Programs - Aeromexico online award ticket

Aeromexico now lets you check availability and book award tickets online. These tickets book into "z*" class. Other carriers book AM award tickets into "U" class. These availabilities do not match. For most carriers a non-elite award ticket is available to the alliance. Does anyone have any inf on why Z* availability does not match U?

I just called AM. They confirmed that Z is only for AM club premier members, while U is for partners. Z has much more availability than U.

The fact the you can even check award availability online is a huge improvement over what they before which was nothing. From what I have seen seen on the award engine, it looks like they have plenty of availability for flights into and with/in Mexico, (at least with/in 90 days out). I can now finally put some of my KmP's to good use considering it takes only 80K miles (or 128k KmP's) to do a transatlantic flight in Business Class from the US/Mexico. I wonder if partner availability is an issue.

It also depends of the route.. when requesting MEX-CDG or MEX-MAD they are using U, not Z.
