Hi eveyone I am new to flyertalk:rolleyes:
Can anyone help me go about getting the cheapest fare and most direct way to Curaco, Netherlands Antilles ?! I am going end of April but my contact their says it is a lot cheaper from Holland than going via the US starting in the UK.
I am told to buy a return from London to AMS then AMS to CUR. It is just a case of getting a confirmation of the cost from AMS to CUR return, as the best fare I have got so far is £724 but that's overnight going and coming via Miami and almost 29 hours on the way back and 24 hours going
Cheers
Clive:)

It is indeed cheaper from AMS than from the UK. But it is even cheaper from Germany. (Provided you get the cheapest booking class.)
In the end, of course, it depends on whether you find a cheap flight to AMS or Germany that fits with the schedule of the flight to CUR, and it depends on how much a hassle you are willing to take into account to get the very cheapest flight. I, for example, would not mind paying GBP50 more if I have to change planes less often and save say 4 hours of time. So in the end it's also a matter of convenience, and that's why airlines "get away" with charging different prices in different countries. (In the case of AMS government subsidies might play a role, too.)
I would suggest you check out opodo websites in different countries and see if you can find a suitable flight to that country with a low cost airline. Provided "cheap" is more important than convenience, that is.

Note that "convenience" also includes the question of what happens when your flight to AMS (or Germany) is delayed. If all your flights are on the same ticket with the same airline, the airline will rebook you to a later flight if you cannot make the connection. If you have two different tickets with different airlines, you have a problem.
P.S: Welcome to Flyertalk!

I found some cheaper fares, for example April 23 with Virgin to Miami, and AA to CUR. So I don't agree it's always cheaper thru Amsterdam (or using Air Berlin thru Germany), but personally I would prefer not going thru the US.

As this is the KL forum, I wrote about KL fares.

I understand, but I thought the question was not specially KL-based, but a bit broader.
In fact, KL does not fly between Miami and Curacao, only AA does that, and perhaps one or few small local airlines.
BTW I completely agree with paying a bit more for much more convenience. In the past I've flown AMS-LIS-CUR-CCS-LIS-OPO-AMS only for the cheap fare ;)

I am going to do some missionary work hence I want a very reasonable price and AMS doesnt seem too far from the UK hence I went for AMS instead of Germany. When I rang up Virgin they said their flight does not connect with the AA flight to CUR and I didn't want to stay overnight in MIA. I know people in AMS if I have to stay there and a friend in Leipzig depending on where these cheap flights originate in Germany. Thanks for your replies , still on the look out . Convenience and price but I would rather not go via the US if I can help it and AMS have a very good service to CUR but waiting for my contact in AMS to get me a quote.

What kind of missionary work are you going to do? For what organization/church/...? Just curious, because we went with our church overthere for a couple of weeks to help some organizations like a children's home, children's daycare etc. (Normally I go there for my work)
About your question: what are your traveling dates? Are you flexible with dates or not?

Welcome to Flyertalk, tennisfan8!
In order to help you better can you inform us which dates you would like to go and come back.
Please note that if you are planning on travelling in the holiday periods the fares to the Netherlands Antilles may be quite expensive.

According to KLM.nl the cheapest fares (also for a month stay) are with departure dates April 23, 24 or May 2, 3.
But fares can vary depending how long you want to stay, so please give us your travel dates for a more precise answer.
