Hotel is four stars which in Asia is like five in US! However, there are mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. Hope someone can use this, book through www.asiawebdirect.com

Yeah I find hotels abroad are general 1 star LESS than their ratings when equating to US hotels...not 1 star more.

Actually on Asoke, isn't it?
In any event, that is an excellent price. It's not available on their web site. Where did you find it?

No on 18. It's newer. I haven't stayed there - yet. The other one is on Ratchadapisek. I've stayed there a bunch. I booked PP18 for April on Hotels.com and it was 1050. Same price direct. Goes to 1500 in May. ps: just checked - up to 1350 on my April dates now and 1700 in May. Still a good deal. wj

I've stayed few nights there last december. Room is a bit small but location is great and there are bunch of places you can eat or get traditional Thai massage close by. BTW hotel is new.

We've stayed at PP Soi 18 twice in the past two months. The location can't be beat. Five minutes' walk to both the Skytrain and the Subway. On a pleasant, non-sleazy soi, with a great outdoor pool, exercise room, etc. Nothing wrong with the rooms either.....and free wireless.

Agreed. The Ambassador is sort of a wierd hotel; it's always under construction and just seems to have an odd sort of feng shui. I'd rather stay just about anywhere else.
The location is good however. Probably a much better choice on Soi 11 would be the Federal. The ground floor rooms are about 1000bht and its a very nice and well run smaller hotel.

Did you expect the PP18 to sell their rooms for 1/2 price forever ? Still lotsa good hotels in BKK for less than 1500. Check the websites like Hotels Combined and Latestays and you'll see some hotels giving some rooms away to guarantee bookings. There's a glut of 3 or 4 *s and they keep building more. Got the Somerset Lake for $35 (ai) in May and the Adelphi Grande for 1600 (ai) in April as well. wj

I would be an even happier Larry of you ever saw something sensible for the
Lebua!
an odd sort of feng shui
Never been able to put my finger on what's wrong with the Ambassador, but I think you've nailed it there.
It was the first place I ever stayed in Bangkok 10 odd years ago, so I have a small soft spot for it.
It's cheap but I definitely wouldn't stay there these days. Better options around.
Soi 11 though is a happening place to be these days and is (largely) sex-trade free, with a number of 'safe' bars you won't chatted up / harassed in if you're not looking for that kind company.

Lebua frequently comes up on Jetsetter at a low price. PM me your email if you need an invite. wj

Currently sitting in the PP soi 18 reception, due to check out tomorrow. As said above the place is really nice, the service excellent, all for the average price of ca 2000 THB/night tax included! As a Carlson Gold, this is the best location in BKK for me so far :)

I was really, really tempted by the price of the PP Soi 18 (it's really unbeatable) but I was even more tempted by SPG qualifying nights and booked an AP at the Four Points instead. :( If I stayed at Carlsons more I would have pocketed the ~500 THB difference and stayed at the PP.

I'm at the PP Soi 18 right now as well. Very nice for the price, great location. Food is half price by the pool right now; I tried it once, and it is still overpriced. But who in Bangkok eats food in the hotel?

Stayed there before and is a very nice hotel. Good offer price wise. Going back in June and may look at staying there again!

...but if i book the pp via http://www.asiawebdirect.com/thailand/bangkok/sukhumvit/park-plaza-sukhumvit-bangkok/ the stay would not count versus status with club carlson?

I don't think 1934 THB is even cheaper than the carlson online rate anyway so why bother?

Park Plaza..mmmm...not too bad.
But at about 1250 thb pn for 4 nights including ABF I actually preferred the Rembrandt next door. I even had a view from my room !
