First the 0 Series was retired. Then the 100 Series's retirement was announced. And now, this.
Series 300 bullet trains will make their final runs this March, and to mark their passing Central Japan Railway Co. (JR Tokai) has put a farewell message on two of the venerable machines.
The two 16-car trains, running on the Tokaido Shinkansen Line, will carry the message "Arigato (Thank you). Last Run 300 2012.3.16" on their noses and sides from Feb. 17 until their last day in service on March 16. JR Tokai unveiled one of the trains at its depot in Tokyo's Shinagawa Ward on Feb. 16.
According to JR Tokai officials, reserved seat tickets for the 300's last ride between Tokyo and Shin-Osaka were sold out in just one minute after they went on sale on the morning of Feb. 16.
