If you are in the Chicagoland area and would be interested in meeting some of your fellow Flyertalkers while tasting varous wines and having a sommelier assist us in running through some basics of wine tasting, please post your interest to this thread.
I'll do some research and provide some options for our group depending upon size.
C'mon out all you oenophiles and wanna be oenophiles:-:
EDITED TO ADD: this thread is just to see who is interested, once we have a group we'll conduct a poll on various dates to see what works for most folks.
Sweet Willie - myself and Ms. ORDOGG are interested - thanks for organizing!

Interested, depending on the date, location, and specifics. I'm willing to travel to Chicago, downtown or ORD, for an interesting tasting, but not for Wine 101.

(bolding mine)
You bring up a point that I had thought about, but just haven't posted yet.
I know that some folks will want to start with a basic introduction, so I can forsee a number of these Wine Do's, each with a differing agenda.
I assure everyone that I will be as forthcoming as I can in regards to details, agenda, cost, so that everyone can make up their mind if they'd like to attend.

Wine? Count me in :D (well, depending on the date).
BTW - directly across from ORD United Club (formerly Red Carpet Club) on the C Concourse (Gate 16? 17?) is a new wine bar that just opened. Looks to be doing good bizness.
Cheers.

There's one in Terminal 3 as well near H4. Wasn't doing too much business on Sunday, but it was 7:30 am when I walked by - I suppose some people think that's too early for a drink.... :p

LOL. I didn't actually stop to have a glass of wine since I was headed into the United Club, but I saw what looked to be a Far Niente label on one of the bottles displayed. If they're serving wine of that calibre I'd say they're a bit more high end than the box stuff. Of course the box stuff was the free swill, er, wine they serve in the United Club. :p :D
Cheers.

Timing is everything, but yes, I would be very interested.
As I know there are wine beginners or those who have been appreciating wine for awhile but want to understand how to describe the wine they are tasting, this first Do will be a basics/introduction. If this does not interest you, there is NO NEED TO STATE/POST DISINTEREST on this thread (& please read the last sentence in this post)
I am currently searching for a place to host this basics Wine Do, as you can imagine nearly all the places I'm looking want to charge a minimum for the room, which I personally am unwilling to do. While I'm not opposed to paying for a room, I don't want to do this for a basics/introduction Wine Do, perhaps with the later Wine Do's will this be desired/warranted by the group as there are some very neat tasting rooms in Chicago.
I expect by the end of next week to have firmed up a room and the agenda/cost for a basic wine Do (I hope to make this as economical as possible without sacrificing taste/knowledge of a basics/intro Wine Do). At that time, I will start a new Do thread and have a poll with dates and the group will decide when the Do will occurr.
I hope there is enough interest to keep a Wine Do tasting going, I think it would be great if we could have many Wine Do's each progressing through different wine regions and broadening our appreciation of wine.

Tentavily interested in the Basic Wine DO (and future ones) however once a date is known can give a definite Yay or Nay.
