Hong Kong and Macau - Possible Left Luggage issue at HKG

So I may have been too smart on this one.

I land at HKG after the last ferry that I could take to Macau leaves the SkyPier so I'm going to leave my bags at the left luggage facility and airport express into Hong Kong and grab a ferry to Macau from there.

In the morning I will take the ferry from Macau straight to HKG. Will I have to go through immigration again just to grab my luggage at the left luggage facility?

I sense a great headache in my future. :(

You'll be airside after taking the ferry to HKG. You'll need to find your way down to arrivals level and go through immigration to get to left luggage and then check that bag with the airline at regular counters. If it's not that bulky, you should really consider taking it to Macau with you instead.

Yes you are being too smart on this one. Take the bags with you- not worth the hassle on return to clear customs and immigration (to enter HKG) and then again (to exit). If you have the egate sticker I guess it won't be that bad, but still.

Depending on the return/continuing airline leaving HKG, isn't it possible for OP (as s/he is using AE into town) to do city check-in at the H.K. or Kowloon Station upon arriving - assuming there is no need to access/retrieve/store anything in those bags? Airlines like CX do allow that up to 24 hours prior to departure & will issue the BP too ...

Just take a small messenger bag or whatever with the valuables onto the Fast Ferry across the Pearl River Delta ...

I am assuming you meant the last ferry to Macau from HKIA which is around 10pm.

You cannot board the ferry from Macau to HKIA unless you have a boarding pass for a flight out. Upon getting off the ferry you will head straight to the departure level security.
You MIGHT be able to go from departure back to arrival and enter HK to grab your bags and check in but it is not the normal flow
I would just take it with you to prevent uncertainties.

Instead of AE take bus A11. It stop right to the Ferry pier at Shun Tek centre. It is the first stop after the harbour tunnel and the stops are indicated on signs and announced.

There are luggage lockers in Macau and/or you can leave your luggage free of charge at some casinos' left luggage, as they wouldn't allow you in with it. At Sands you can leave your luggage for 3 days, I believe.

Thanks for the answers everyone.

Looks like I will be lugging my large suitcase out of HKG, on to the A11 bus, catch a Turbojet to Macau and then take the direct shot back to HKG at 0730 Monday morning. I'll use the big lockers at the Macau Ferry terminal.

My issue is that I land at 1945 on UA0895 but I need to get to City of Dreams before 11pm (don't ask). I suppose I now have the way that gives me the best chance of reaching that target.

Awesome!

There is a helicopter service at Shun Tek Centre to Macau. I heard it is 11 minutes.

With such tight time- you may want to consider taking a taxi? It should cost around 350 HKD I think and be a little bit of a time saver?

I don't think the highest price necessarily means the fastestconnection. I'd think the airport express to HK station and a taxi from there would be faster. Ferries from Shun Tak run at least every 15 minutes (more frequently at peak times).

When I land in HKG I'll flip a coin (I am going to Macau after all) and that will be the decider and I'll post the results. I am leaning towards taxi or bus now though since I'll have my big bag in tow.

I will suggest taxi + ferry (or helicopter if flight running late or etc)

For plane arranging that time the OP should clear custom around 2030, that means arriving Macau ferry approx 2100, ticket done 2115 for a 2145 departure (arrive Macau 2245 and city of dreams sharp on 2300)

I will seriously consider fly one flight earlier or take helicopter.

Speaking of which, unless the OP is taking helicopter, I don't think it make sense to do the insane trip. Doing 8S128 (2200 dep HKIA) may actually arrive Macau the same time (if not earlier) as a detour to town... YMMV

As someone who has done A11 to pier post 2200h arrival as well as HKIA to Macau direct,
&
Your need to carry the "luggage"
&
ChrisLi's timing recommendation:

If I were you I would just chill at HKIA for the 2200 ferry. No need to over complicate the journey. The trip from the airport is shorter than the trip from the HK piers. The ferry can sail at top speed from the airport sooner than the ferry from the HK pier having to maneuver out of the harbour.

All to often on this any many forums I see people ask questions and not give feedback on what happened. This is the outcome of my trip. Bottom line up front: Success.

Arrived at HKG at 1945 pm on the dot due to some delays at ORD. I could not wait for the 2200 ferry since I needed to be at the City of Dreams Macau before 2300.

Immigration was pretty simple and once through I decided to gamble and take the A11 bus. I was shocked my Octopus card still worked and still had some HKD's on it. Bus was 40HKD.

Bus dropped me off at the Ferry Terminal and I was able to catch the 2030 ferry to Macau were they served me some bland but good (because I was starving) chicken rice.

Docked at the Macau ferry terminal and I was out of immigration and on a bus to the City of Dreams at exactly 2200.

Pitch perfect. Thanks again flyertalkers for the help in making this a success.

+1 Thanks for sharing. What did you ended up doing with your luggage?

Those Axx buses are excellent & the scenic way to get into town, especially when time isn't a major factor on a short layover, etc. - dragging a 10 to 15 kb. suitcase onto the bus's luggage rack can be a pain. :)

Oops. I carried my big bag with me on the A11, ferried it via Turbojet to Macau and left it at the Macau terminal storage room. Picked it up the next morning at 0645 intime to catch the first ferry to HKG.
