Quick question: Flying TXL ZRH TLV on LX in C tonight. Have a separate ticket on LY for TLV ETH tomorrow morning. I might not be able to cram everything into a single carry-on - what's the luggage transfer procedure in TLV?

Searched both forums, but could not find any hints.

On LX, will be able to take both pieces as hand luggage, but on the TLV ETH run, I'm not so sure (in Y, flight appears packed as per on-line checkin).

You have to pass passport control in TLV, collect your luggage, clear customs, take the shuttle to Terminal 1.
And recheck your luggage...

That's what I was afraid of.

Thanks for the reply.

Like most countries (including USA) when transferring from international to national flights.

I was more hoping along the lines of

Clear customs @ T3 and then immediately drop at LY counter in T3, do not queue in T1 ;-)

Oh well.

Slightly OT: NYC -> MUC/DUS -> TXL: no customs clearance in either MUC or DUS.

Not quite, at least as far as the US is concerned. All arriving international passengers to the US must clear immigration and customs at their port of entry even if their luggage is checked all the way through to the final destination. Thus, when exiting customs, pre-tagged bags are simply dropped off at the transfer desk for the balance of the trip on the domestic segments. Even when changing airlines, there is no need to schlep bags to another terminal and recheck them so long as the two airlines have an interline agreement.
