Washington D.C. (including Baltimore) - Day rate at decent IAD hotel?

Arriving at IAD ~7am on a Tuesday. Departing on an international flight ~5:30pm.

Any suggestions on decent hotels with shuttle at IAD that have day rates? Or recommendations on hotels that will most likely have rooms available for early check in? Prefer HHonors but not essential.

Best bet at IAD is to call airport hotels directly (not the 800 reservations #) and ask what the best day rate is given your time parameters. You can often do substantially better than you will through reservations. There is nothing spectacular and nothing horrible. Couple of Marriots within 5-minute or less shuttle from the terminal.

If you have time, there is a free shuttle bus to the Air & Space / Udvar Hazey museum which is remarkable.
