Hilton HHonors - Doubletree Amsterdam Centraal Station (formerly MINT Hotel Amsterdam)

After an OK, but not great stay in the former MINT hotel Doubletree Westminster (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hilton-hhonors/1309876-doubletree-hilton-hotel-westminster-formerly-mint-hotel.html), I now had a very nice stay at the MINT Hotel Amsterdam.

Upon checkin, I was upgraded to a very nice "Club Balcony" room on the 10th floor with amazing views across the old part of Amsterdam: the Grand Hotel Amrath, the St. Nikolaaskerk and the Oudeschans. During the weekend, the canals were frozen and I could watch the skaters from the balcony. Certainly the nicest view that I ever had in an Amsterdam hotel. The room had all of the amenities needed, including The White Company bathroom amenities, bathrobes, and Listerine mouthwash.

SkyLounge. The SkyLounge on the 11th floor is not an executive lounge, but rather a bar for everyone. Still, it is quite pleasant (relatively spacious), and I went there on Sunday to have a late lunch with great views across the city.

Breakfast. The breakfast was certainly the best that I have ever had in Amsterdam, but not really great by international standards. Eggs made to order were available, but you had to ask for them. I also had dinner in the City Cafe (where breakfast is served) which was fine.

Location. The location is quite convenient, right next to Central Station (about a five minute walk). As mentioned, the views are hard to beat.

I have another upcoming stay where something was a bit messed up in my reservation. I mentioned this to the checkout agent while I was leaving and she said "I booked you into another room". When I checked my reservations later, it now said "Junior Suite" for the price of the standard Queen room -- very nice surprise! All in all an extremely pleasant stay, I am glad I'll be back soon.

Thanks! One more option (and I remember exactly where this ex-MINT hotel is - convenient!)

I stayed in this hotel last year as the MINT. I have a trip coming up and am considering it again, but just noticed it changed to Hilton. The hotel is OK but doesn't look to be a good value proposition for Hilton points.

I liked that everything was new and there were computers in the rooms, but the furnishings, linens, mattresses seemed low quality albeit new and fresh.

I agree with the OP that breakfast is fantastic. Easily the best hotel breakfast in Amsterdam.

Service was friendly but not really helpful or attentive. I had paid for breakfast with my booking but everyday they argued with me that I had not. "No, it doesn't look like your booking includes breakfast. Sign here please and 28 euros will be charged to your room." Needless to say, this got a bit annoying after a few days, and wasn't corrected until the 3rd day.

I also found the hotel to be very noisy. The walls are concrete, and I was five floors down from the rooftop bar, but somehow I had a tremendous amount of noise coming into my room every night with footsteps, chairs moving, etc. It must have been something with the ductwork design, but it literally sounded like the rooftop bar was three feet above my bed. Very strange.

It also seemed to me like the hotel and its staff was having a hard time settling in and managing such a large property. I'm sure the recent changeover to Hilton has only added to the confusion. In time this might be a great property, but I think I'm going to avoid it for a few years.

For reference, I booked this hotel last year for 3 nights using only 56,000 (total) Delta miles through the Delta Marketplace. It looks like a standard room would now cost me 105,000 Hilton points for a 3 night stay. :(

I think my next stay might be at the Hotel Pulitzer for 12,000 SPG per night. It appears to be the best value hotel in AMS that can be booked with a rewards program. If anybody has other suggestions, let me know.

Just had my second stay (mentioned up-thread) in the King Junior Suite. Not much to report beyond what I already mentioned in my report above, except that if I have the choice between a Club Balcony room on the 10th floor (BAR 199 EUR) and the King Junior Suite on the 3rd floor (BAR 249 EUR), I'll choose the Club Balcony every time.

It literally is 3-5 minutes walk from the station. At the train station go to the exits for "Centraal". When you walk out of the building turn left, and stay as close to the building as possible (there's trams and all other sorts of obstacles otherwise). At the very end of the building, cross the tram lines (watch out for trams, busses, and bikes!) and you'll see the DoubleTree by Hilton in the near distance looking like a high-rise polygon! You check-in at the far end of the building so just walk along it on the right-hand side, past the lounge and City Cafe, and you'll see the entrance at the end. Enjoy!

A standard room would now cost you about 82,000 SkyMiles a night. I'm looking at an October booking.

Anybody stayed here yet with a reward booking using either Delta or AA miles (I think they use the same booking system). I'm wondering if this property extends elite benefits to those types of bookings? Found a good deal here in August for 56,000 Delta miles total for 3 nights.

Has anyone booked a room with HH points recently? I was just researching VIP rates for a 5-night stay, and the only (reasonable) points option is for a twin room for 28k. There are 100k+ options for "premium" rooms, but those are ridiculous. The rate for a standard queen room is the same as the standard twin room, yet it is unbookable with points.

I stayed at this hotel in Feb and got upgraded to the IJ king master suite w/city view on the top floor w/ sliding doors to balcony overlooking amsterdam city. btw I booked on cash & points

as a hilton diamond (now dropped down to a lowly gold), i was given free breakfast buffet at the City cafe, upgrade to best suite in the hotel, late checkout, free internet, fruit basket & 2 bottles of water (still and mineral) awaiting in the suite. There is no executive lounge in this hotel.

the suite was awesome!! it had a huge plasma tv connected w/ the newest mac mini..

the bedroom also had a iMAC with wireless mouse&keyboard!!

If I was going to open a hotel I'd put Apple products in it because it seems to amaze and bewilder guests beyond belief! :) There could probably be cockroaches having an orgy on the bed and no-one would notice!

Love this hotel so much!! My preferred choice in Amsterdam, got 2 more stays coming up again this month. Close to Centraal which is awesome, room service is great, breakfast is superb, skybar is amazing, wifi is fast, white company toiletries are nice, they respect and upgrade diamonds really well, love it. I agree with the other poster that some things appear a little cheap like bed linen/shelving, but because it's brand new, i have no problem, we will see in about 6-7 years how it goes, but now, wow. very very very contemporary design and concretey, etc but it's great, love it! I was always in a quandry with the hilton amsterdam, good hotel, crap location for me and business, so typically i'd NEVER stay there, the Doubletree is on the other end of the spectrum, love it and the best location for me. Haven't checked out the gym yet...

Currently staying here for three nights. As Diamond, I was upgraded to a dockside suite with an excellent city view.

A few quirks to get used to. Some room windows has these electric shutters that can open and close on demand. There are individual controls in each room. However it seems that hotel management can also open and close them from a master switch somewhere. If that happens, the room switches become temporarily disabled. This morning I was enjoying the nice view of the city when suddenly the shutters closed, and I couldn't reopen them.

The noises from the trains have already been mentioned, but I was able to sleep without any problems.

The breakfast buffet is outstanding.

Location cant be beat next door to Amsterdam Centraal.

If I ever made it back to Amsterdam, I think I would return here.

sucks....while i generally don't stay at properties without an executive lounge, it does seem like this property is a much better option than the hilton....

has any diamond booked 2 rooms here????i just wanted to know if this property would also offer breakfast to the second room if both rooms are booked under a diamond members name....

I've stayed a couple of times as Gold at this hotel, and once I received a suite upgrade. My next stay will be as Diamond, so hoping for the suite upgrade again :)

Location is great for exploring Amsterdam, you can get off the train from Schiphol and walk into the hotel a few minutes later. You are close to the train station, buses and Metro if you want to get around a little, and prices are reasonable, too. Bikes are available at the hotel. Breakfast is wonderful, but with a full hotel it is quite busy! Staff is always friendly. The White Company bathroom amenities are great.

The main entrance is a bit hard to find for first-time visitors, but once you get there it is not a problem. Would be slightly better if they had the main entrance straight in sight from Amsterdam Centraal.

Great hotel!

How many times is this question asked in various threads?

The t&c as per the previous posts do say it is for the member only. If you dont get them, that is correct, if you do get them, its a nice bonus, but don't expect and dont be put out if you don't.

Why should hotels give out benefits to family? Maybe through goodwill, but those people have not earnt those benefits, so you can't be annoyed at all if they don't get them- if it really is important book the upgraded rooms/ breakfast etc to start.

Just had my fourth stay at this hotel in less than six months. This hotel will remain my favourite hotel in Amsterdam, but the last stay had a couple of quirks:

No upgrade; maybe they were full (this is the first time that I have seen their standard rooms). Also no HHG amenity in the room.
When I came to my room (well past midnight), there was a big suitcase right next to the door. Since I was tired, I ignored it. The next morning, it was still there. When I came back from breakfast, it was still there. I called reception and informed them.
There was no shampoo in my room. Of course, I only noticed that after I was already under the shower.
While I was packing my suitcase, housekeeping knocked on the door. I was not quick enough to answer, and they tried to open the door. The door was chained, and the chain broke into pieces.
When I was checking out, there were lots of families sitting on the floor of the reception areas, repacking their suitcases with very loud children.

All minor things, but still (especially the thing with the chain is worrying: if the housekeeping lady can rip the chain apart accidentally while opening the door, how safe can it be...?). The rest of the rather short stay was excellent.

Had booked a King room on points for a 3-day stay; was upgraded to a high-floor suite in the "other building" (cross thru the glass walkway to the x01-x10 section).

Very quiet room, with fast WiFi (and NO sign-in screen). Both rooms of the suite had individual climate control. Large bathroom, separate tub and shower. Loads of amenities from both White Company and Crabtree and Evelyn.

As a Diamond, in addition to the suite upgrade, I was also given free access to the mini-bar, which was promised to be restocked daily. No, not a full-liquor mini-bar, but one with chips, water (still and sparkling), and two Heineken beers. Though not restocked daily, still a bit nicer than one or two bottles of water. Also, without asking was granted late-checkout (6:00 PM) on my last day.

Breakfast was outstanding, and also included as part of the upgrades.

Very friendly staff at the Lobby Bar and Skylounge (two very aptly named bars). Pricey, but very good.

With the city view, as well as the "other building" placement, the room was very quiet and did not seem to have the issues as noted above. The hotel overall was very clean.

Also: The front desk sells GVB cards valid for 24-hours for EUR 7.50. By far the easiest way to purchase these tickets, and you can charge the room (hello points for transit)....

One caution... Parking on site is now EUR 45 a day. Take advantage of its location at Centraal!

Just returned from another three-night stay. Oddly, I once more didn't have shampoo in my room. This time, I noticed before I started showering and asked housekeeping who provided shampoo immediately.

I think I should also mention Stella in the City Cafe who seems to remember all breakfast orders in detail -- I have been in this hotel four or five times over a period of seven months now, and she still greets and remembers my breakfast order.

Good news !

I need two rooms for next Aug and I am at Gold status. Of course it would be pure luck if my other room got free breakfast. I have been advised to ask for a room away from the train noise. Is that what you meant by city view?

Any hints on when/where to get the best rate for next August?

The hotel is next to Centraal Station so you'll hear the trains regardless. The City View rooms face away from the tracks so there will be less train noise.

I am currently booked for 5 nights here in June, but am considering switching to the Hilton Amsterdam since it seems to be in a quieter neighborhood. The DoubleTree also seems to be a bit more isolated, despite being technically closer to the city center. Any reason to choose the DoubleTree over the Hilton, aside from the location?

Room size: Hilton Amsterdam rooms are noticeably larger
Bathroom spec: DT is more contemporary. Great shower pressure
Location: Hilton is in a much quieter neighbourhood but I wouldn't regard the DT as being isolated as it is just a 5 minute walk from/to the tram termini and Centraal Station.

I stayed at the DT for 4 nights last October. The Hilton was 100% non-smoking which I like but Wi-Fi was costly. I also thought the location was not central enough (limited tram lines), which may or may not be accurate since I never made it there to find out.

The DT on the other hand was a quick 5-min walk from the station and trams, but you could also easily walk around the general area there. Free Wi-Fi, regardless of status, which is a plus in Europe since it adds a good bit to the final bill otherwise. I was worried about getting a non-smoking room since the Hilton site for whatever reason didn't distinguish between smoking and non-smoking for this property, so I made my reservation over the phone to make sure they have the non-smoking request in there.

I made Gold by the time I stayed there and was upgraded to a nice, bright room, big enough for me, with city views and floor to ceiling windows. Shower only, no tub. As mentioned above, free mini-bar, and they refilled it every day.

Apart from the free Wi-Fi, each room also has a Mac that you can use and where you can print your boarding pass from. (You permanently wipe out any user data as one of the options, not sure if it is in fact a reformat of sorts, but it brings the machine back to vanilla once you do that.)

There's a Starbucks right there too. I never made it to the hotel restaurants so can't speak for that. This property did have the worst DT cookie ever though, but that's a minor :)

All in all it was a good choice for me and I'll stay there again.

I have to agree with above, great location. Very short walk (watch the bikes) to Centraal, and maybe a 10 minute walk to Dam Square (watch the bikes), which means you are passing all sorts of wonderful places on the way. The tram network is right there, you can buy the card from the front desk, and they have also been very liberal on late check-outs; which is another plus.

Just watch the bikes.

Prospero
Jan 23, 13, 4:58 pm
As far as I am aware, only full suites and accessible rooms have bath tubs (and separate walk in shower). Junior suites are fitted with just a walk in shower similar to regular rooms.

If you look at the typical floor plan [here (http://www.bennettsassociates.com/data/projects/0502/project.pdf)], it shows only 8 suites per floor, and as this is measured against a total of 533 keys, I'd say if you want a suite you really should be looking at booking one from the outset.

FWIW, I consistently book Queen Exec rooms; the free [in my case, Gold] Hilton HHonors space available upgrade is to a Queen Junior Suite.

I stayed here last night. Was upgraded to a King City Suite from a king deluxe (at an extra cost of 99 Euros).

It was a room on the 4th floor, very nice. Lots of floor to ceiling windows looking out over the harbour/city. Bathroom was fantastic - separate large tub and powerful shower. Lots of large-sized toiletries and all the accompaniments (toothbrush and razor included.)

Separate bedroom with door. View from the extremely comfortable bed. There's an iMac in the bedroom for tv duties.

Lounge bit has table and 2 chairs, a 2-seater sofa, a big tv with an Apple Mac Mini and Bluetooth keyboard. The mini bar was indeed free - had two bottles of Heineken, a small white wine, diet coke, coke, still and sparkling water, a packet of plain Lays, a Hershey Bar I think that's it!) Coffeee maker and other hot drink supplies, and takeaway cups with lids for you to make your free drink and take it out with you.

There's a Starbucks in the same building that I think is franchised by the Doubletree.

5 minutes walk to Centraal Station, and a great base for taking a wander around the city!

I'd definitely recommend it.

1 nights stay, yesterday(Feb 17). Upgraded to a suite, not sure the name. 1 bedroom, with living room, full bath and shower. Coffee maker and mini fridge(Couple of Beers, sodas, waters, chips.) Mini is a nice touch, but not a deciding factor by any strech. Staff was on point, and addressed issues immediately.....

Great hotel. Nice and modern, super clean. One of the nicer places in Amsterdam, as everything is clean and fresh. Good breakfast downstairs for Diamonds....., not a fan of the apple stuff, as we had multiple problems with keyboards ect.

This is defenitely on my list of places to stay. I also really like the Hilton here as well, but this is right up there, just different styles. My decisions in the future will be driven by price, but this is a GREAT addition to the Hilton family in AMS.

Highly recommended!

I have been watching the Hilton discount code thread closely for a chance to book a cheap room at the DT Ams. Whenc I went into the HIlton web site today to try out some codes I was gobsmaked to fid that the cheapest room at the non-refund published rate had dropped by almost 50% to 89 Euros per night -mid week. ^

At this now affordable rate for a pensioner, I immediately booked 2 rooms for my party.\

When did this drop in rates occur? was it announced on this forum?

On a second but related subject (might belong in another thread) after I booked two room on my Honors account and CC I recieved two E-mail confirmations with the same confirmation number and no other way of distinguishing. that these were two separate room??

I went into my Honors log-on in the Hiltom Honors web site and it only shows a single reservation with one room. I called the Honors desk and was told that it was actually two rooms in their records and not to worry,

But worry is what I do on vacation and I have no piece of paper confirming that I paid in advance for two rooms.

Not a good way of doing business having to go on trust between myself and a hotel computer that might go-down

I think, it was technical error. I booked Hilton Rekjawik prepaid room in Januar and received two e-mail. They charged me twice too.
I wrote in hotel and they refund me my second pay in next day.
There is their answer to me:
I am sorry for this misunderstanding.
We received for some reason 2 reservations for the same booking.
I have cancelled one of those bookings and refund to your credit card.
I hope that this has not caused you any harm.
We are looking forward to accommodate you at our hotel and trust that you will enjoy your stay.
I think, you haven't any problem too.

Hotel was a pleasant stay with good proximity to transport links.

Synopsis:

Booked a Queen Balcony Room:

08 - 11 March - GBP 414 Total (3 Nights)

Service:

No communication with the hotel before hand and no NOR1 upgrades were shown via the HH site (no green banner to click).

Check in acknowledged HHD status. Did not upgrade or offer an upgrade.

Requested an umbrella on the first day; it was raining. They had no umbrellas - i petioned, was given a small pocket umbrella from lost and found. Later saw a person with a Doubletree Umbrella in Amsterdam, maybe all the umbrellas had been given out...?

Requested a late check out - given 15:30. Requested what was the latest check out available, flight was not until 21:00. was told we could stay later but would incur a charge of 65EUR until 18:00. We declined.

We ate in the restraunts on two occasions, the first evening service was impeccable, staff were very attentive. On the second evening staff were slow and resulted in me finding staff on two occassions.

Value:

The room price was as above, i considered this to be good value for the room and balcony and proximity to transport links.

Sleep quality:

The bed was adequate but problems with the pillos being flat. Temperature control was poor with the room rarely warm - it was zero Celsius outside though. We did not relate either problem to the management team.

Cleanliness:

Overall poor. The carpet was stained - very obviously - see pics. I did not report but management team thought ok to place someone in the room.

We requested sheets to be changed on the bed by placing the card on the bed as directed - the sheets did not appear to be changed. If they had they were exceptionally creased when they had been put on.

The room always smelled very good after cleaning.

Location:

As noted was very good. Everywhere was walkable - although we took the tram when it was raining. Hard to say if this location is better than the Hilton in Amsterdam as both are probably equal distance to the middle of the old town.

Rooms:

Other than the staining. The room was satisfactory. Worth noting there is no bath. we were unaware of this upon booking - probably my fault i should have done more research and reading.

Other items of note:

Skylounge was good, views were good, oysters were good. Idea of prices: Oysters (6) and two cocktails was 42Eur.

The room had an ironing board and iron. The minibar is complimentary and refilled daily, contents included; can of Coke, Orangina, crisps, two bottles of Heineken, can of white wine oh and some not very nice chocolate - Hersheys i think.

Would we stay again:

In short, yes.

HHD is clearly poor from my experience and the service and rooms need some 'tweaks' but the location and price will probably influence a return stay. I think we will try the Hilton next time we/I am in Amsterdam.

Conclusion:

Brand loyalty was not recognised on my visit, except for a 3:30 hour extension to the room. Incidently they could have allowed a later check out but chose rather to try and charge, this is the hotels perogative and ultimately affects my judgement of the hotel. I have been balanced and only stated facts in my review, yet resting upon the laurels of good location will only last so long.

Wether hotel patrons are silver, gold, diamond or do not have status with Hilton, the rooms and cleanliness and service need to match their expectations. I hope the hotel improves for future visits.

I have been watching the Hilton discount code thread closely for a chance to book a cheap room at the DT Ams. When I went into the Hilton web site today to try out some codes I was gobsmaked to fid that the cheapest room at the non-refund published rate had dropped by almost 50% to 89 Euros per night -mid week. At this now affordable rate for a pensioner, I immediately booked 2 rooms for my party.

When did this drop in rates occur? Was it announced on this forum?

Just like you, I noticed it yesterday, but I didn't have time to book yet or report on it. The rates are still at this level today, almost all weekday nights (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu) of July and August. I am considering the AAA / AARP rate which is 94 euro, without advanced pay requirement.

Summer is the best time to visit Amsterdam anyway. Two 'famous' museums will have reopend this summer after ten years of renovations, the Rijks and the Stedelijk Museum.

All rooms at the Doubletree CS are equiped with Apple computers, so even older people will know how to operate them.

Rates sube 125 euro for the summer is good!! I paid 90 in Feb.

PS, Im 40's and cant Turn on the Apple stuff. Ie how to turn on the wireless keyboard, there is no switch and I've opereated a few gadgets in my day! A 1 page cheat sheet would be nice for turning things on ect, once its ON....Apple is simple. Actually, this one frustrated me after a long day! This is a very good and clean hotel in Amsterdam

Hey all,

Any chance anyone has a reservations manager email address at the DT AMS? Would love to send them a quick note in advance of my trip.

Many thanks for sharing!

Best approach in a case like this: go to Tripadvisor. Find the property. Click on the Traveler Rating "Terrible". Don't read any of the reviews, because these people are all idiots. Just read the replies by the hotel. In most cases you'll find the hotel address in one of those replies. In this case the address you'll find is: damscs.info@hilton.com

In order to offer balance, i have posted the reply the manager; Caroline Receveur has given to my posting on Tripadvisor (11 March 2013) - posted a few posts back in this thread.

Highly appreciate your detailed review. We do work with Nor1 systems so you definitely should have had the green banner on your confirmation. As I don't know the exact details of your stays I can't double check what happened but I'm happy to confirm that the system is working properly now.

Regarding upgrades, these are offered to all Hhonors Gold and Diamond members, though only if available. As next category above the executive room you booked the hotel offers 49 suites which could have been sold out on the night of your stay.

I understand your feeling regarding late check-out. We are normally very flexible with allowing people to stay longer in the room and would only charge if we need to have the room available for the next guests. Once again, I would need your exact details of stay to further investigate, I'd be very grateful if you would forward these to me.

I fully agree with your note regarding our carpet and do replace or deepclean carpets on a regular base. We will definitely double check your room as maintenance and cleanliness is one of our main priorities.

Regarding the pillows, on a future stay please do not hesitate to contact the careline to ask for different type of pillows. We have an extensive pillow menu offering both soft and hard pillows.

The room temperate should be adjustable three degrees up and down. We have been facing some technical issues with the systems in our rooms which sometimes limited these inidividual adjustments, but which are now solved. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

I'm so happy you would stay with us again in the fufure. We will definitely follow up on your comments. Please do not hesitate to inform me about your new stay. I would be delighted to welcome you.

I do not want to exasperate an already mediocre stay but several points are worthy of consideration:

Caroline acknowledges she does not know the details of my stay (not sure why i have given the room type, dates and price - how many diamonds were there in the hotel... and needed an extension to the room?) but then goes on to state:

Could not say why an upgrade can be given - as she does not know my details.

Cannot investigate why an extension of room could not be given - as she does not know my details.

She would check our room for the carpet - how does she know what room i was in...? - as she does not know my details.

Interestingly i would reply directly as i am keen on improving the situation for future loyal guests - but there are no contact details given

I think the 'jurys out' to how much commitment you can place to the response given.

I wonder if Caroline reads this thread?

5 min walk

which direction?

You exit the Central train station or the hotel walking in the same direction, their exits face the main area of town. Literally, across the street from the hotel and train station, as many Restaraunts, bars, shopping as you could want. Seriously, dont worry about it until you are there, choices abound.

Matt_eng if you need Carolines details, just PM me and I will provide. I found the follow-up and service here very good. As well as the upgrade for me as a Diamond. The problem with Amsterdam is that the hotels are full far to often, even in winter.... And yes, sometimes hotels miss upgrades, so not saying that was the case.

I'm a HHonors Gold level member.

I recently returned from a stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Amsterdam Centraal Station. Current Q1 2013 regular points cost is 40,000. I booked a single night 'PREMIUM ROOM REWARD HHonors Special' for 37,000 points (Its going for 28,500 today!) and upon checking in was given the Dock Suite - Tenth floor, far end of the building with a huge 'private' deck (I say 'private' because there was nothing but potted plants separating it from the public deck next to it) with panoramic views of the city and harbor. Complimentary mini-bar, lots of toiletries, Mac Mini connected to flat panel TV in living room, iMac in bedroom. It was quiet (with the exception of the trains) and was a perfect ending to a week of travel. The large breakfast buffet was complimentary and selection was great. The location is hard to beat for access to transit. The Concierge was extremely helpful in helping find stuff to do and booking tours.

I would definitely stay here again, I'd even be willing to pay real money for it :)

Actually, it's still not working. This week I made a new reservation and the nor1 banner does not show up.

A little off point but hoping posters here know the area. We plan on staying here for 2 nights in July and are looking for a fun 1 day side trip where we would spend the night. Just looking for a quaint area out in the country with interesting things to see, it would not have to have a Hilton property involved. We would prefer to take the train but could possibly lease a car.

Primer:
HHonors Gold, booked Queen Hilton Exec Balcony, Anytime Anywhere rate of €163.17. Allocated an upgrade to East Dock suite at check-in. The normal space available upgrade with this rate would be to a Junior suite with balcony but i'm certain the hotel manager was keen to push the boat out after an issue I experienced during a prior stay. Very effective service recovery as you can see below:

Let's begin with the essential espresso machine. Normally stocked with 4 pods: 2 regular + 2 decaf. Ooh! you can even see my reflection :)
Note, there are espresso machines in junior suites too. Standard rooms are stocked with instant coffee sticks

I just had a stay there last week. As a Gold using points, I was given an upgraded room with a balcony. The other reviews in this thread pretty much nail this hotel on the head - the location is awesome, the staff is great, the rooms are nice for Europe and the breakfast is amazing.

I can't agree with some previous posters - there are some good things about this property but also a lot that needs improving

Checking in - chaos - lots of front desk staff but most of them doing nothing. After 15 minutes checked in - we weren't told what room type we had - I requested upgrade availability. When we checked out we found the tiny room we had was actually a supplement!?

Location - very good and 10m minute walk to Centraal

Room - tiny - one desk chair and one sitting chair. Queen bed although my profile says King. Mid floor not high as per profile. Next to Elevator not away as per profile. Free mini bar - so what? 10 Euros at the mini mart across the road.

Noise - Saturday night was non stop drunks which is why I ask for a quiet room

Staff - gormless

Breakfast - hot breakfast was disgusting - bacon that was 80% fat - horrible sausages - bland eggs

Overall 220 Euros for a 3/4 * hotel - and they say London is expensive!

Front desk was always so busy that we couldn't be bothered as we just couldn't wait to leave
