I stayed twice a week ago for a few days each time (part of a MR).
Overall I was pleased with the hotel. The rate I got was $144 with AAA. The hotel is located on the main street across from the Apple store. There is a Macy's connected with the hotel. The lobby is on the 2nd floor along with some restaurants and some dinner/show thing.
As a plat member, I got a few things. First I booked a standard room and got upgrades.
First time, I got a king partial ocean. Second time I got a king full ocean view. Both rooms were identical, but I'll get to that shortly.
As a plat I also got late check out (based on day of departure and how full they are - usually 2pm), some 15% breakfast and lunch discount and $5 off of parking. I also got a welcome gift of chocolate covered macadamia nuts. Parking is valet only and some $30/day. They do have self service laundry.
The room was a nicer HI room. LCD TV, good bed, a shower and sink. Overall it was a fine stay.

I stayed at this hotel last year. As a platinum member, I received the chocolates - but that is all. No room upgrade (I asked), no valet parking discount, and no breakfast/lunch discount.

Unless you have the full ocean view side (I didn't), it is a fairly poor city view. The partial ocean view rooms require you to walk out on to the balcony to see a small glimpse of the ocean. You can not see it from your room.

As mentioned, the bathroom is nice. The sliding doors to the balcony are louvered (pictured) and only open half-way.

Location is OK, right next to the International Market for some shopping and food. It is not on the beach. You must cross the street and use the beach access sidewalk (very close by) to go to the beach.

- Aloha!

I stayed here recently on points, getting the King standard room I'd booked, crummy city view. I hadn't asked about an upgrade at check-in, but when I asked about a late checkout two days later, the clerk replied with a horrified, "We're completely full!" When I stood my ground, she relented to 1PM, implying that at 13:01 security would be there to supervise my 5 minutes' packing time before tossing me. As it turned out, I was out before noon. My room looked like photo above, although a handicapped bathroom, with only a shower curtain (no door) separating the shower area (handheld only, no shower itself). Ironic that the room was smaller than it looks in the picture, so that actually negotiating it in a wheelchair would've been tricky.

Box of chocolate-covered macadamias (as pictured above) waiting in room with welcome note; at check-in was given two coupons for bottled water from their shop. Mediocre buffet breakfast in the lobby restaurant $12.00 (no discount).

At $200/night cash, the room would've seemed mighty pricey.

I stayed here when it was the Beachcomber at $50/night via Priceline. One of the better deals I ever got in Honolulu but at $200/night I can do better even with the refurb.

Yes, it's in the heart of Waikiki. I'm going next month too and am really looking forward to it. Walking distance to anything in Waikiki. Shopping, restaurants, bars, beach, etc.

Don't know if you've already stayed there, but I walked there and it was less than 10 minutes.

My stay was similar to this, chocolates and that was it. I thought the room was a good value for location and cleanliness but I got a crummy low floor view of the air-conditioning units. Asked for upgrade, got nothing. Staff was more friendly about it than other IHG's when asking them.
